In my opinion Howard isn't coming here to play with Rondo and the old folks home.   We'd need to add another All-Star level player in his prime to get this done.

It is possible but will probably require trading away one or two of our older former All-Stars to bring in someone to go along with Rondo that would make it appealing to Howard going forward.

Good points..but going forward, even if we don't touch our roster right now?

We'd have (next year):

A healthy Jeff Green.

Perhaps Josh Smith? He's close friends with Rondo AND Dwight, from what I've seen written.

KG and Ray Ray - resigned for a home-town discount, hopefully.

Rondo in his prime? As his jumpshot continues to improve? He's already showing signs of getting better in that area.

The wiley vet Captain Paul Pierce? Even at 35, he'd still be a dangerous SF.

An older Avery Bradley...Dwight MUST'VE been impressed by what he saw on Tuesday.

Not mention Bass and Pietrus...hopefully we could re-sign Bass. If anyone can get it done, Danny can.

We've seen Danny work his mojo before (Summer of 2007). He can do it again.

He's just being polite and blowing smoke for the Boston writers.  He has no interest in joining this team.  He probably figures he can't do much with a 35 year old Pierce and a top 10 PG (Rondo).  He's probably right.  The team would need a lot more to be a contender.

Wow! One of the main arguments for the notion that Dwight Howard or other superstars aren't landing in Boston is that they have all expressed no interest in being Celtics.  It's been written so many times that people actually believe that Dwight Howard has said that he doesn't want to be a Celtic.

Now he says that he would consider Boston, and you say that he's just making it up, and he would never want to play here.  This is all based on your intense pessimism about this team, one that I can understand Dwight Howard not sharing.

I believe he's looking for a multi-year window to win, and the Aged Three aren't the catnip to attract him here.  Two other complementary in-their-prime All-Stars are, however.  And he's just given Danny another nudge to make sure he creates that situation.

Danny ought to have the raw materials to pull that off and he shouldn't give up on doing so--all Wyc's attachment to the Aged Three aside.

I think he also played with dooling, wasnt dooling on the magic? my only concern is dwight doesnt make it past the deadline. other then that i think we have as good as shot as anyone to make a run at him in free agency.

If he really wanted to come here he would have put BOS on his list of teams he'd sign an extension with.  Just think about this for a second; if a reporter just puts you on the spot and asks the questions, how do you expect him to respond?  He's not going to say no their window is closed or no the market is too small or no nobody else wants to go there with me.

I'm not going to close the door until he signs elsewhere, but every indication is he favors other teams who have the cap space over us.

I agree.  Paul Pierce for Rudy Gay/Josh Smith sounds like the move that we'd have to make...

If we could then bring back Ray at the 2, we'd already have a very very solid team that is considerably better than Dwight's surrounding cast in Orlando (12-5 record)
2020 CelticsStrong All-2000s Draft -- Utah Jazz

So he wouldn't hit the ignore button?? SWEET!

Seriously though it would be kind of awkward if dwight said, "no I wouldn't listen to Danny. Dont really care what he has to say. I'm not keeping my options open and I just don't really like boston"

I think there might be a chance he comes but this doesn't really do anything for me. I mean I guess its better than him saying he'd hit the ignore button

Of course he would.  He's going to listen to all his options, just like LeBron entertained meeting with the Nets.

The thing is he's got to wait until these calls can actually take place!  What's the point of talking about this when that's so far away?  But no, there's Dwight, already saying he wants to go somewhere warm with a top 2 PG.  I wouldn't be surprised if he makes his "decision" half a year before he's supposed to just like LeBron.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

So we go from no chance to miniscule chance.

A minuscule chance feels good to me!! If there is even a spark of hope, I am all for it. KG would never come to the Celtics as well and we all know how that turned out. He would look good in Celtics Green though...

And where is this list? Can we see it? Have you seen it? Let's see this supposed list that says "I HATE BOSTON" scrawled all over it.

Seriously, the cognitive dissonance among some of the people here is ridiculous.

"DWIGHT HATES BOSTON, HE SAID HE DOESN'T WANT TO COME HERE!"
"He just said he would."
"HE'S LYING!!!!!!!"

If Dwight actually does sign here, these same people are going to be saying it was a mistake to sign him, and that he is a horrible player.  ::)

My God, how people love to shoehorn evidence to their preconceived notions. The whole "NO FREE AGENTS LIKE BOSTON" thing is REALLY getting old. No matter how many times it is shown to be BS, the same people keep trotting it out, smugly pointing at Chris Paul as if that situation were somehow indicative of every free agent in the league.

I think our effort Monday night didn't hurt. Granted, he's played against us so many times, but nobody has ever shut down the Magic like we did that night, without so many key pieces at that. Gritty, hard-nosed basketball. Anyway, I wouldn't read too much into his comments, but I don't think he was just doing for PR purposes. He said a lot more than just "yes, sure, its a great organization". I think he'd legitimately be interested if he makes it past the trade deadline.

I bet dwight listens when mormons knock on his door too, but I doubt he'll be moving to Utah anytime soon either.

I dont believe this at all.

and "I want to win. I want to do it my way."

Worst comment ever.  Maybe that's why you're not a winner, Dwight.

  • Rondo = Good
If he wants to win there are a bunch of teams that would give him a better shot than Boston.

New Jersey, for one.
