They just showed Rondo briefly on the bench and it looked like he had a white cast on his wrist and Mike Groman even said it was a cast .

I googled sprained wrist and cast on google and everything I found has said that a sprained wrist doesn't require a cast , only if there is broken bones.

With the way the c's have hidden injuries in the past I wouldn't be surprised if it is a worse injury than they are letting on ...

That was one nasty spill rondo took

A quick google search suggests that it is common to use a cast for a sprained wrist, especially if it is a severe sprain.

Can only speak from experience, but I had a cast on when I sprained my wrist.

But I agree, I am a little worried about the injury.

  • Rondo = Good
Yeah, it's probably a severe sprain.  Which is like, real bad.  Rondo might be out another week or two.  Hard for this team to win any games without Rondo.

As I've said before, this team was going to struggle to win much more than half its games without any major injuries.  If Rondo misses more than a few games, we might as well just start sitting the Big 3 and just all-out tanking.

I don't think he had a cast on. He had it momentarily wrapped in something, maybe ice. At the end of the half he no longer had it on.

Here's how I'd look at it...
worst case scenario - injury's really worse than we thought and Rondo will be out at least another 2 weeks..
best case scenario - they're showcasing Bradley for a big trade later on..
... But that's just me..

Rondo seems like the kind of guy who is fidget-y if forced to sit.  Maybe they insisted he wear an air cast and keep his wrist immobilized because he wants to be doing something and refuses sit still.

Does not 'require' a cast is different from is not helped by a cast. Could just be part of immobilizing a sprained limb.

it was definitely a removable splint -- not a cast.

They minimize every injury every guy on th team gets. But, every NBA team does the same thing, I guess.

Regardless of whether or not you think that, I don't see how you or the OP could be suggesting there is a cover up here.

Has anyone in the history of sports ever lied about a broken bone by masking it as a sprain?  They're not even in the same ballpark.

Furthermore, we're not even sure it was a cast.  It looked more like a stabilizing wrap, perhaps the same as the one we saw Eddie putting on him yesterday.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

They minimize every injury every guy on th team gets. But, every NBA team does the same thing, I guess.

But they haven't minimized Rondo's injury this season:

Injury update: Point guard Rajon Rondo sat out Thursday's session with soreness in the right wrist he injured Wednesday night against the Raptors. He was expected to undergo an MRI Thursday evening and is officially doubtful for Friday's game against the Suns. (Read more HERE). But he's not the only one dinged up. Here's a quick rundown on Boston's other ailing bodies

Quote
BOSTON -- An MRI on Rajon Rondo's sprained right wrist came back negative Thursday, but the team is playing it safe and sitting him out for at least Friday's visit from the Phoenix Suns. Second-year guard Avery Bradley gets his first career start in his place.

"[Rondo's] not going to play tonight, but he’s getting better, I guess," said Celtics coach Doc Rivers. "He’ll be OK."

Quote
Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo will miss his second straight game due to a strained right wrist when the Celtics visit the Wizards Sunday afternoon. Avery Bradley is in line for his second straight start and will be matched up against John Wall (coming out of high school, ESPNU ranked Bradley the No. 1 prospect in the class of 2009, ahead of not only Wall, who was fifth, but Derrick Favors, Xavier Henry, and DeMarcus Cousins).

Quote
Rondo will miss his third straight game due to a sprained right wrist sustained in a fall Wednesday night against the Toronto Raptors. He lobbied to play, but team doctors erred on the side of caution. Rivers suggested he should be back Thursday in Orlando for the back end of this home-and-home.

I mean I get how you could say the same thing about other injuries on this team throughout the years, but they've been pretty straight foward about Rondo so far IMO.
