As has been discussed, its not that we lost as expected, its how we lost. Maye had one of the best seasons ever by a young qb, and then didn't rise to the occasion against 4 straight elite defenses.

I hoped he would do a better job at reacting to an elite defense to start the year. Honestly in the first half, he did a pretty good job getting the ball out and not making stupid plays. Everything unraveled when Brown got hurt. Its almost like not having the idea of him out there made Maye flip a switch in his brain to play hero ball.

Tough way to start, still wouldn't trade Maye for almost anyone. He's 23 and learning. The next month might not be fun with Doubs as the #1 option on the depth chart

Wish we still had Boutte.   I think it?s true that they looked bad in the second half and not anything better than mediocre in the first half.  However, if Maye had found an open receiver in the end zone instead of throwing again into double-coverage, the conversation would be different. More realistically, if he had just lofted it one more foot - out of bounds, got the FG and won in OT the discussion would be different.  I think drawing too much from this game is a mistake.

I really hope its rust more than anything.  I know there is the injury risk but not playing him the entire preseason did him zero favors.  Practice speed and game speed are two different things even in the preseason.

They punted 3 out of 4 possessions in the first half and only had 130 yards of total offense. Their biggest offensive play was a pass interference on a ball that Maye underthrew.  Despite the 7-0 lead at the half, the offense did not look good at all in the first half either.  Seemed like a combination of rust, lack of reps, and playing one of the top defenses in the NFL.
