My apologies, but this seems warranted:

By the way, to those of you talking about the Celtics offering 5+ years to Love if the T-Wolves only offer him 4, I'm fairly certain that's not possible.  Per the new CBA, the Celtics would only be able to offer Love 4 years, and their offer would be much lower in terms of total $$ than whatever the Wolves could offer.  The Wolves have the upper hand even if they wait till this summer.

Also, make no mistake -- even if Love does make it to restricted free agency, it's hard to imagine the Celtics as his first choice.  He already has a young pass-first point guard with all kinds of potential to play with in Minnesota, and he also has plenty of other young teammates with potential.  The Celtics just have Rondo, and an ancient Paul Pierce for another 2 seasons.  Edge: Minnesota.

I don't even know who you are trying to insult here....

Insult?  Nobody.

The "Duh!" was directed to the original poster.  Of course the Celtics would offer Love the max.  That's not particularly enlightening.

In all fairness to me, this is the first time a media source confirmed as much.  I wasn't trying to enlighten anybody -- it was just confirmation that he was/is indeed on Danny's radar.  Finally, to say that Danny would "of course offer him the max" -- how do you know this?  Maybe he's not Danny's type of player.  Maybe Danny wants more athleticism at the 4 spot.

any team in the league with the cap space and an opening at the PF position would offer the max to a guy in his early 20's averaging 20-25 pts and 10-15 rebounds per game.

that's just the market price for that kind of player.

Yeah, I understand the market.  But again, maybe he's not Danny's type of player.  Maybe Danny wants athleticism and D from the 4-spot, which is something that Love really doesn't bring to the table.  To make it seem like it is an easy decision (for Danny) is a mistake.  Maybe he thinks Jeff Green is better suited at the 4-spot and that he'd rather upgrade different positions.

Would absolutely love to have the guy, but as I've stated before - unfortunately, I think Minnesota is probably a more attractive place to play going forward than Boston.
rondo+love+gerald wallace next season we would be set

Ainge seems to like the idea of having a stretch 4, so Love seems like the kind of player he would go after.

I think that if we can work to get Love, then trade Pierce for Gay. Draft a young center, and then work to either keep Allen ot sign another shooter, our starters will be great. But that still leaves us with a similar situation for our bench that we have every year, Competing with other contenders for savvy veterans.

I'm going to reiterate something I've said in a handful of threads already:

Kevin Love was born and raised in Santa Monica (in Los Angeles).  Went to school at UCLA (in Los Angeles).  His father, Stan Love, played for the Lakers (in Los Angeles) in 1974.  Stan Love also was a Los Angeles native born in raised.  In fact, Stan Love's older brother is Mike Love of the Beach Boys (Los Angeles icons)... and Stan Love's cousins are Brian, Carl and Dennis Wilson (Of the Beach Boys)...

Kevin's favorite team growing up was the Lakers.  His favorite player was Shaq.  It really doesn't get any more Los Angeles than this guy.

Meanwhile.. the Lakers are infatuated with him.  They already offered Pau Gasol for him.  They'd LOVE to have him and reportedly will do everything they can to get him.

I don't have any reason to believe he'd abandon his roots and accept a deal with the Celtics.  I also don't have any reason to believe the Timberwolves would let their star player walk away for nothing at the age of 23.

He'd abandon his roots if the Lakers acquire Dwight Howard and no longer have the money to offer him.

I fully expect minnesota to resign him.

but why does everyone seem to bring up the lakers as if they have cap space to get him?

Also, how exactly is minnesota a more desireable situation than Boston??

hard to imagine a scenario where the T Wolves would not match any offer to K Love.  He is the center piece of their team, and they traded Al away to build around him. Plus could you imagine the fan reaction if he ended going to Boston, after trade??

If the Lakers acquire Dwight it will be for Bynum.  The Lakers could still acquire Kevin Love for Pau.  Of course, this is all dependent on the idea that Minny WOULDN'T want to lock up their 23 year old phenom big man.  If Love decides to just take a 1 year extension he'd be an unrestricted free agent in 2013... so NEXT year, the Timberwolves would be looking to trade Love to the highest bidder to a destination Love was interested in going to.  Kinda like what the Hornets did with Chris Paul.  And like that situation, Chris Paul had sway over where he ended up.

Love will not be interested in coming to Boston.  There are a dozen teams he'd probably be more interested in leaving for... if he's interested in leaving at all.  If I'm him, I stick around with Rubio and make something special happen in Minny.

Paul Pierce is from Englewood and he grew up a fan of the Lakers.

It doesn't get much more LA than Paul Pierce, except for the fact that he was drafted by Boston and has played here his whole career.

LeBron is from Akron, Ohio, and was the golden boy for his hometown Cavs for years, and still left in free agency.

I don't put much stock in where a player is from.

It's widely rumored that there was an offer of Love for Gasol and the T-Wolves are pretty much just waiting to see if they can get Love to sign an extension, match an offer sheet, or get more in a trade offer.  Plus it is rumored that Minnesota has some interest in bringing in Gasol to form a "Spanish Connection" with Rubio.  And the Lakers proved they were willing to part with Gasol in the Chris Paul non-deal.

So, it's a trade that makes some sense for everyone involved and it's just a matter of trying to discern what Love wants and if Kahn can get more for him than what has allegedly been offered.  If Love is refusing to sign an extension, he either wants out of Minnesota or he's holding out for the maximum money and years that the T-Wolves would like to avoid offering.
