I know there are a lot of people out there that are going to point to today's great game by PP and say "See! He still has it. He has just been out of shape and needed to work back into his old self." This is EXACTLY what happens to old guys people. Every couple of weeks they have a magical game like they used to more often than not and it makes you think that it is still there. We have seen it with every player out there that was on their way down into mediocrity again. Jordan had the occasional 40+ game in that last season while the majority were far less. He had no help, so he was able to take a lot of shots to get into the 20's most nights. Bird had the occasional huge night where he looked like his old self while the majority of the time he looked old and worn out.

We are going to see this all year with PP, KG, and JO. (Ray is not really human so he doesn't count) JO has had a couple games where he looks like a solid big man, but also quite a few like he shouldn't be playing anymore. KG is the same. A few nights this season he has looked great. Most nights just old. The same is the case and will be with the captain.

It is time to blow this thing up. I am glad that Danny realizes it. I am glad that the ownership appear to agree as well. This is the perfect time to send him packing if you are going to do it because maybe we can get a GM to believe that he has enough in the tank to push them over the top. When Ray gets back and recovered from that ankle we can start shopping him. KG is likely to be a tougher guy to get rid of since he is definitely the most beat down of the three.

One thing that Pietrus showed me today is that he has the ability to come in and fill PP's shoes to some degree. Enough to make it worth trying to pick up some young talent or draft picks...

I'll withhold judgment until a few more games can be played...  It may be premature to say how this thing will go for PP either way at the moment.

No No, PP stays.  He's always delivered and always will.  He's clutch and has shown more improvement since the beginning of the season than any other celtic

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
You don't think he needs more games to see if it was a fluke?
I mean as a Celtics fan, surely you've seen this kind of thing from Pierce more than a few times?

Could it be that he is actually getting in a rhythm and his injury is in the rear view mirror now?
He's certainly moving much better.
If he has movement now, why should we expect anything less than 15-20PPG?

Don't be a hater/doubter simply because you want to blow the team up. Give him a chance lol.

Stay the course...  There's no reason to enjoy wins and great performances at this point, when we can dream of 30 win seasons and rooting for losses for the next half-decade.

I know that Pierce has been linked to the Pacers a fair bit over the last few days but I doubt that they would be interested in taking him on.

They have cap space at the moment but they also have contract extensions for Roy Hibbert and George Hill on the horizon and then extensions for Hansbrough and Collison the summer after (+ David West's deal expires that summer and he will need to be re-signed or replaced). They can afford Pierce's contract now but they'll have a real problem paying everyone involved next year and more so again the year after.

It's not like the Pacers are rolling in money over there. They've been losing huge money for years. I don't think Indiana can make that type of financial outlay.

If you think Pietrus has the ability to come in and fill PP's shoes to an extent, I would love to see what players you would like to rebuild with.

Pietrus might possibly be able to come in and play for Ray if his ankle injury means multiple missed games, but he does not have the ability to create his own shot, or get to the hole, or draw fouls....anything like Pierce...I could go on for a while.

If there is one part of your post that I agree with, it is that Pierce's trade value should be capitalized on while he's hot.

Unfortunately his trade value is going to be at its highest if he carries this team like he did tonight, over the next 10-15 games before the trade deadline, and by that stage, we should have an idea of whether or not this team can compete on a playoff level.

maybe we can sign Ashja Jones from the CT Sun.  She drops 15.5 ppg!

If it's purely a nostalgic blip of a vintage performance, I wouldn't seeing the same, but on a team wide level.  Just once!

KG in the "cat ready to pounce" pose n defense?

ahhh, the good old days.
Yup

As happy as I am after a Celtics win, I do agree that today's win was as meaningless as drinking a Diet Coke with a bucket of fried chicken.

We need to beat some meaningful teams and win some meaningful games, not just 3 wins over the 2 and forever Wizards. And as far as the Wizards beating OKC earlier this week, I've got a word that's spelled F-L-U-K-E.

You mean you don't drink it "just for the taste of it"?
