How do we not know that Stiemsma might be able to provide this team what Asik would?  I mean, Asik is averaging 17 minutes per game this year... How can we fully know what his game is about?

And I find it funny how Ray Allen is suddenly being downgraded as this terrible player.  He's been extremely consistent this year.

But to each his own, I suppose...

I never called Ray a terrible player. Ray is a great player but he is not able to create his own shot anymore (unless he shows otherwise). He is 37 years old and if we can get a very good young defensive center for him, while ray goes to a contender, that is great. I like Greg Steimsma and think he is a good player who should get more playing time but he doesnt have the body or strength of Asik.

I donĀ“t understand this trade, this is stupid.

Ray Allen still is a star in the league.

Chicago doesn't do that, but it wouldn't be terrible for the C's.

Bad deal for both teams. Bulls are beasts of the boards, Celtics have no offense. Ray is currently our second best scorer and our best shooter. Bulls lose part of their advantage of having so many beast big men in Boozer, Noah, Gibson, plus Osik.

Can't we just bring Gerald Green back?

Greg does poorly in any situation where he has to defend the low post.   He does well in help situations but Asik is clearly the better over all defender.

I live in Chicago and Bulls are very high on Asik.  They probably value him more than any of their bigs not name Noah.  They would hang up the phone on this.

Also, Tommy Heinsohn mentioned this during the Chicago game a few weeks back...Rip Hamilton and Ray apparently do not get along at all.  He said when UConn has a alumni event for the basketball team, if one goes, the other doesn't.  Chicago wouldn't sign Rip as a FA and then hand his job over to a big time rival.

Read in another article that Chicago would be more willing to trade JNoah than Asik! Apparently they're really high on him, and  Noah's production has gone down slightly over the last 2-3 years.
Either one would be OK with me, as they are both young and good defensively and rebounding wise!

The problem with Noah is that he's got 5 years, $60 million left on his deal.  For a guy averaging 7 points and 8 rebounds and who has had attitude / work ethic problems in the past, that's pretty scary.

Asik is a great defender and rebounder and I would love to have him but not for Ray. Our offense is the biggest problem right now.

Yeah, and it would be kind of strange seeing Noah as a Celtic.
Bulls could also trade Boozer to be able to keep both Gibson and Asik. So until those posibilities have played out, I think Asik is off limits.

Chicago may not want to move Asik, but he (or rather his agent) may want a trade.  The last time a great back-up big hit restricted free agency he only got the MLE (Gortat) because he didn't have starter minutes to show what he could do.

Any one think Gortat would have been signed for the MLE if he'd gotten a starting opportunity before he hit free agency?

That said, I'm sure another team wanting to start Asik would be able to include a better replacement big than Stiemsma.

That's the kind of risk I'd take (not that we would have the assets to land Noah), especially on a team emphasizing transition.  I think Noah's a much better offensive weapon than we've seen in Chicago and his defense/rebounding is already top notch.  You wouldn't do KG/Pietrus for Noah/Korver/filler if it was available?

...or if it doesn't pan out (HIGHLY likely) this is the kind of deal that cripples a franchise for a half-decade, and keeps you stuck in mediocrity, the equivalent of NBA purgatory...

Trading a 37 year old shooting guard for a 25 year old reliable center is the kind of deal that can cripple a franchise for half a decade? Seems like no risk, at least decent reward to me. I mean if the Celtics start playing well than none of this matters.
