[Jeff] Green is as big a question mark at this point as Johnson.

Agree to disagree, I guess.  Jeff Green has had a quality NBA career.  Wes Johnson has been absolute garbage.  They're not equivalent, at all.

I won't disagree with you that Green has had a quality NBA career to this point.  I'm a big Green fan and was pumped when we traded for him.  The reason he is a question mark is because he had HEART surgery.  That's no joke.  It sadly reminds me of Reggie Lewis.  I hope Green comes back fully from this(hopefully in Celtics green), but if that's not a question mark, I don't know what is..

Wesley Johnson's statistics are largely meaningless. There is some value to be found in them but not much.

They lack meaning because Wesley has been played out of position for the vast majority of his young NBA career. A position where due to his skill-set he is a much less effective basketball player.

His career will start to take shape once he is developed as an out and out small forward. He is a more effective defender, a more effective rebounder and a better offensive player at the three spot. His play and development will improve considerably once used there.

Aren't you a little disappointed in his rebounding numbers at the 2?

Johnson and Ridnour take up a combined $8.3 million in cap space next year, and $9.7 million the year after.  We're using 1/6th of our cap on a young player who has looked poor overall (despite a few flashes) and a backup point guard.  In addition, we'd be giving up a #2.

Thanks for re-pointing out what I already made known 5 pages and 12 hours ago.   ;)

I can't possibly see how this would make any sense.  Johnson and Ridnour are on the books for 8.3m next year and 9.5m the year after.  Ridnour is a backup (and a bad one at that) and Johnson has so far failed to live up to his potential.

I doubt even Danny could be that foolish....I hope ::)

You'd be better off keeping the $8.3 million in space next year, and trading Ray for an expiring contract plus a #1 pick.  Chances are that a random first rounder in next year's draft will outperform Johnson's sub-40% shooting, and that cap space can be used to retain a superior player (somebody in the Jeff Green range, or even Green himself).

So, Green + #1 + not giving up a #2, or Johnson + Ridnour?  I think the first package is clearly superior for a rebuilding team.

Agreed!

Through January 18, Johnson has played as much time at SF as at SG this year, though.  Actually, slightly more.  He has an anemic .302 eFG% at SF.  Granted it's early, but that may be the worst mark I've ever seen.

Presumably, he'll improve on that historically bad mark, but there's no guarantee he ever becomes even a solid bench player.  Lots of folks point to his athleticism and draft position, but plenty of players taken in the top ten bust.

Rebounding opportunities are very different between the two and the three. The positions on the floor. The caliber of shooter you are defending. Your responsibility in terms of boxing out. As well as your coach's directions to look for transition responsibilities.

His rebounding numbers will increase considerably once used as a small forward ... as Kevin Durant's did once he was moved from SG to SF.

Yes, his rebounding numbers are disappointing as a two guard and yes I do expect them to improve considerably and prove quite solid as a small forward.

Okay, this is a very small sample but he has played a good bit of SF since Beasley went down and if you look at his position splits in 82games.com you'll see that his initial rebounding numbers are solid. Neutral with his opponent (slight positive differential).

I wonder if people are getting Wesley Johnson of Minnesota and Wesley Matthews of Portland confused?

Matthews is a tredmendous young player, Johnson not so much.

Would like to see a source but this at least makes some sense for both teams.

I would expand the deal

Boston Gets Wesly Johnson, Renaldo balkman, 2013 ny 1st top 15 protected

Minn gets Ray allen

NY gets Ridnour (they need an point guard asap)

Sac(any team with space) gets bill walker (to make #s work)

For the Cs johnson could develop into the kind of player rondo is best suited to play with long, super athletic, and can shoot from 3.

With all due respect to the OP, this appears to have no legs, whatsoever. I haven't heard or seen a thing about this.

Plus it's important to remember than Wes Johnson is pretty old for a second year player.  Most likely less room to grow.

NOT WITH A jammed ANKLE LOLOLOLOL

Is it true that Ray is going to Minnesota for Wesley Johnson and Luke Ridnour? I just heard it on talk radio...it would make sense I guess.  Also a Boston 2nd round pick was thrown in?
