Because at least he's said he's wanted to come here, unlike CP3 or Howard. That means he would at least play hard for us and return the next season unlike some other so called stars.

The funny thing is that I live in Atlanta, and if there is a player the fans want to dump desperately, it is Smith. He's had problems with every coach, people frequently complain that he is uncoachable, that he does his own thing frequently, shying away from the post to shoot long 2s, gambling on D for blocks, etc. He is really gifted athletically, but has never been a great player.

What would be the purpose of bringing him over? Getting flashbacks of Antoine Walker by having a talented power forward chucking long shots? To be a poor man's Atlanta hawks and hope for the 2nd round every year?

because he's a flawed but realistic target for the C's with some reasonable talent.. i hate to say it, but in the post-Big 3 era these are the types of players we will have to get used to.

and he can run with Rondo. Rondo is a one man fast break with this team because no one besides Bass can keep up with Rondo . Time to blow it up

If it is time to blow it up, then getting Josh Smith and that contract are terrible ideas. As for Josh Smith keeping up with Rondo, a constant complaint here in Atlanta is precisely that Josh Smith kills fast breaks by overdribbling and settling for jumpshots.
