Would you consider trading for Amare Stoudemire?

There has been talk that Amare and Carmelo are a bad fit for being on a team with each other and there were rumors that the Knicks were dangling Stoudemire in an attempt to acquire Chris Paul.

Stoudemire is an older player, but I'm okay with the idea of trying to acquire a couple of stars in the 28-32 age range.  More worrisome are his knees, which have made his contract uninsurable, or so I have read.  Plus, his lack of defense may make him a bad fit for a Doc Rivers-coached team.

The proposal is: Stoudemire for Ray Allen, Brandon Bass, and Keyon Dooling.  Trade ballast would have to be involved.

The Knicks get a better fit alongside Carmelo Anthony and shore up their weak bench.  The Celtics get a superstar who is a big who can make a jump shot, something that is necessary for a Rondo-driven team.

The Celtics go with a starting lineup of Garnett, Stoudemire, Pierce, Pietrus, and Rondo, along with a decimated bench that needs one of the rookies or Bradley (if not traded) to step up.

As with many trade ideas I come up with, I'm not sure I would do it, but I think it is an interesting idea.  I would be concerned that the more Stoudemire's play convinces the Knicks this might be a good idea, the less desirable Amare becomes.

The Knicks WAS Amar'es team until Carmelo got there...

I would love Amar'e to be in Boston, I love him better than Bosh...but I don't think NY will do that trade

Yes, I would consider trading for Amare, but it would depend on the deal. At this point, the Cs have little that can be used to pry away an All Star from another team. If the Cs can do it with an expiring contract and spare parts, then it is a no brainer (but they can't, the Knicks will demand more).

No way is Amare worth that much. Just because he scores a lot doesn't make him a good player. Especially considering how bad he is at defense, and rebounding, and passing, and everything that ISN'T scoring. Hell, look at his advanced metrics, he hasn't been an efficient player since 2008.

EDIT: He and Carmelo are perfect for each other, in that each are great examples of "if you score a lot people will think you are better than you are" philosophy of basketball. I've said this a hundred times, and I'll say it again, because it is entirely true ... players like Lebron and Durant aren't good because they score a lot; they are good because they score a lot AND do all the other things. Melo and Amare don't do those other things. The advanced metrics show this to be the case.

Nope.  I don't think he fixes anything that's wrong with the Celtics as they are and he's got 3 more years of a max deal left after this season.

Well, one thing that seems to be a pretty big problem with the Celtics is that they are habitually scoring less points than the teams they play against. On top of that, they've got nobody to play center. AMare Stoudemire is the best scoring big man in basketball, and was a 2nd or 3rd string All-NBA center last year or something.

Agree on both points. The trade in question was one that didn't involve Rondo however, and like I said...everyday of the week, knees and all.

what about garnett for amare? then ray somewhere (indiana)for a first rd pick?

we'd then have 3 1st rd picks in a deep draft and amare would essentially be one of our max free agents (in terms of sticking with the plan).

after next year, the celtics could have the young players (if all goes well in the draft) to put a package together for another max guy, or sign one outright if that is an option.

so, the next big 3 and core of the team would be rondo, amare and [insert dream player here]. is that good enough for a rebuild?

I feel that. For Ray Allen and spare parts it is a hell of a deal, but if those knees go bad then that's a cap crippling contract.
