I think Danny will make no significant moves, because no one is going to give up value, while still allowing us the cap flexibility we will have by letting these guys expire.

He will probably make a small move or two (he can't help it), but I would be surprised if there is anything big to pull the trigger on.

Who would possibly expect Doc or Danny to talk down any of their players or the competitiveness of their team?  Whether or not they swing any deals, that's just a bad strategy all around.

IMO Danny knows full well what the team's limitations are.  Back at the beginning of training camp he always couched his assessment as, "The Big Three (or The Team or The Core) believe that they have one more run in them--and we're going to see if they're right; I certainly hope they are."  Or some such.

What Danny doesn't know IMO is whether or not he could get positive assets for a trade of any of his starters such that a deal makes sense, rather than waiting out KG and Ray's contracts, at least.

That's pretty much been the situation in Boston before Allen & Garnett joined.

And so what if we have one carp year this year. The last four seasons we've been right in the thick of contention. Untimely injuries put the clamps on two of the seasons and raising #18.

It's been a good ride. I also think this team will makes things very interesting for us as the season wears on. Don't count them out.

I'd only trade these guys if they wanted out. Otherwise I let them finish. Pierce will be productive for 2-3 more seasons and we've got cap space this off season.

We're in Ok shape, it's an interesting time.

already has been said...

but Danny will not sacrifice cap space until the pipe dream of Dwight Howard is taken off the table (like when he is inevitably traded to the Lakers and signs the extension).  Then... the flood gates will open and he'll scramble to trade KG and Ray's expiring contracts for whatever he can get... even if that means bringing on a horrible contract like Joe Johnson.

The only trade he would make is dumping Pierce since he's on the books for 16.7 million next year and doesn't really figure into a rebuild.  I think if Danny can get an expiring contract + cheap young prospect or 1st rounder for Pierce, he'll consider doing it since that would only help in the rebuild and make the team more desirable for a guy like Dwight to sign with us..
