We ARE a playoff team.  We will eke in as the 8th seed, and we will witness this team die a slow death.  Ainge and Doc OVERvalue this aging roster, and their comments lead us to believe they WANT this team to get ONE LAST shot at it.  It's fool's gold, but they don't have the guts to blow it up so we'll watch this team limp to the finish line, and lose in the first round...

East currently:

Chicago
Atlanta
Philadelphia
Miami
Orlando
Indiana
Cleveland
New York
-----
Boston

New York will get better...they have too much talent.  The ONLY team that will drop is Cleveland.  I'm not a believer in them, and we will take their spot for the last position.

So all these rumors...they will remain rumors.  Get used to a LONG season with average basketball.  We are 0-6 against teams with records of .500 or above, but there are enough bad teams to help us slide into the playoffs.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.

Funny, that's what most analysts are saying about the Celtics.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

it's more of a question of how deep can we go

I've been skeptical of NY all a long, but I saw them as more than a .500 team. Perhaps they aren't, but they should at least hit .500.

Does NY really have that much talent? All the talent seems to have ended up in Denver (or China). They have two top scorers, but I'm not sure how much that correlates to winning when there is more to basketball than taking shots.

At the moment its really one volume shooter...Not even two scorers...

Melo's black hole-ness has sort of suffocated stat's offence

I think there's gonna be a deal and I think it will be a big one. These C's are a first round out. Second at the outside.

i dont see how he can make a move.... anything that will jeapardize the summer cap space would suck. we let tony allen, perk, and a lot of people walk just to be good this summer on cap space...lets not ruin that "investment" on role players that require a contract.

Who do we need the cap for who will want to sign here? Do we want to end up like the Nets? Remember when they had cap space and ended up with Travis Outlaw and Jordan Farmar? The Clippers were also left in the cold that offseason.

If you can trade for a good young player, that is more valuable than unsure cap space this year. This is not the Lebron free agent year when lots of guys were available.

We already have a PG, so Deron as a free agent is questionable. Howard, well, is he interested?

Yea...I don't think DA makes major move yet, only two players would justify screwing with the lineup more than its already been screwed up.  Love and DH is pretty much the only ones worth tearing the team down at this point.

I see DA saving up his assets.  Taking our lumps this year , maybe no playoff and see how we fair in the draft. Taking a hard look at the Big Three at seasons end.  If they are still healthy , and see what their values might be. or their interest in being Celtics in a much lesser role.

DA should be coiled up like a snake ready to inject new Playoff level talent into the Celtics after this season.

I think we are building a good bench .  Just need 2-3 more NEW franchise level players to join em.

Danny , like most GMs, will wait for Dwight Howard to be traded before making any moves..

Its really going to be tough to build a team from the bench out. Finding franchise level players is not going to be an easy task. I agree that most teams are going to wait for the Howard chips to fall and then the secondary moves will kick in. If Howard goes to the west then western playoff teams will push to add players and then the calls with come in for the big three same thing if an elite team in the east lands him. Our best case is a team goes all in for the playoffs this year and we can scavenge some young talent.

Should get KG to talk to Howard tell him how he didn't wanna be here at first and now he loves it, with a lot of luck it might be enough to convince him.

There won't be any big deals because we don't have many desireable assets.  Ray and KG have little trade value.  Nobody wants Rondo.  It will take an amazing offer for us to even consider letting  Pierce go (and I just don't see it happening; unless Pierce asks out).

For the long term health of the team, making the playoffs as a 7 or 8 seed is horrible. This team has three weeks to get things going and make at least the 5 seed, otherwise we should try to get a top five pick in the next draft.

I live in Houston and I have watched the Rockets play mediocre ball for years. Not good enough to win titles, not bad enough to get a top 5 team changing pick in the draft.

That NBA "Pergatory" is the worst. Trust me.

Who would possibly expect Doc or Danny to talk down any of their players or the competitiveness of their team?  Whether or not they swing any deals, that's just a bad strategy all around.

IMO Danny knows full well what the team's limitations are.  Back at the beginning of training camp he always couched his assessment as, "The Big Three (or The Team or The Core) believe that they have one more run in them--and we're going to see if they're right; I certainly hope they are."  Or some such.

What Danny doesn't know IMO is whether or not he could get positive assets for a trade of any of his starters such that a deal makes sense, rather than waiting out KG and Ray's contracts, at least.
