Thing we need more than anything right now is a big man that can score down low.
This is a gamble to give the C's one last shot with the big 3, which then gives us cap room after the season is over:

Boston sends to New Orleans:
Jermaine Oneal
Avery Bradley
Jajuan Johnson
Jason Thompson from the Kings.
They cut JO (or he retires)-clearing up their cap space if they want.

Boston gets Chris Kaman for one year. (then we can wipe him off the books)

Kings get Dooling and Steimsma for sending Thompson and get Steimsma as his replacement.

Leaves us thin at the 5 spot and backup PG spot but we have an upper tier NBA center who can score in the low post.
We are giving up Johnson and Bradley but it seems like a worthy gamble if we get Kaman to give our core one last realistic shot.

Playoff rotation:

Kaman
KG
Pierce
Ray
Rondo

Bass
Wilcox
Pietrus
Marquis
Moore

Trying to think of similar ways to get Kaman but it definitely involves cutting JO. New Orleans wouldn't care if he walks/retires because they get some young guys as they rebuild and replace Kaman with Thompson as the back up C.
I like Gortat as well but I don't know what the Suns would want in return for me, and for me Kaman is a much more accomplished center/low post scorer.

Any suggestions/tweaks are appreciated.

I can't imagine that the Kings would do this without any picks, and in my opinion this leaves us too thin. With the compressed schedule injurys are a matter time.

not trading 5 players for chris kaman NO! let alone 4 of them being roation players ,plus we seen too little of JJJ to trade him just like that ,lets not have another joe johnson ,chauncey billups on our hands

Yeah the hard part was the Kings agreeing to this.
They would have to rate Steimsma.
They have Fredette, Evans, Thornton and Garcia, so getting Dooling wouldn't do them too much good.
We need them to take Dooling for cap relief.
We could swap Dooling for Wilcox but leaves us very very thin with Steimsma as the back up for Kaman.

Throwing in our first round pick is a big gamble.
Do we keep the team as is and accept that we are unlikely to get by the Heat/Bulls?
Or make a big gamble hoping that they can f

Suggestions on how we acquire a legitimate NBA center to give this team a better shot?

Why would we give up all our young guys when center is not our only problem? We are not good enough right now too look for a final piece. The Kaman idea is a desperation move and too much risk for too little chance for a payoff.

Because our young guys are mediocre. We haven't seen JJJ play yet so we could be giving away a potential stud.
But all I remember since losing Shaq is how badly a big guy who can score inside is missed on this team.
Our team was just beastly when we had a legit center. Kaman is a huge upgrade on Perkins offensively, his 1v1 defense is very good as well.

'Giving up all our young guys'...this may be true, but who cares?

Is a 2nd year guy (Avery) who hasn't shown us much, a first round pick who is looking at years of development(JJJ), and a D league shot blocker(Steimsma) getting his chance to become a perennial 2nd/3rd string NBA option.
We really aren't giving up much in 'All our young guys'.

just trade bass, JO and Wilcox for Kaman... or lets just hope that Kaman gets bought out at some point

Not sure if you're serious but we then have jjj backing up kg, steimsma backing up kaman and no scoring off the bench cept pietrus....

Would much rather dump useless rookies than veterans...

I was serious.  I said it in another thread.  I'd rather have a starting center than a back up PF.  It's not ideal, but I'd do it and fill the roster with whatever crap is still unsigned.

I don't understand because the point of getting kaman is to win this year. We can't win this year with no scoring/decent big men off the bench we don't have a shot. If It's an attempt to put it all on the line this year then the players who can play now and contribute now come first...

I really don't even see NO agreeing to this deal; JJJ and AB have very little trade value at this point.  At best they can get you a 8-10 rotation player; but a legitimate starter?  No way.

I'm still trying to round up the band for our epic drive to Oklahoma City to free Perk. We got the zippo, it's dark out, and we're wearing shades. We're on a mission from God.
