Pierce
Rondo
Bradley
Johnson
Moore
Stiemsma QO
Clips 1st, Forward
Bos 1st , Rivers if our pick is in the top 15
2nd rounder, Festus Ezeli
Green, back on one year cheap deal 4 million
Bass, opt out and sign one year deal for 6 million
Pietrus, vet minimum
Ray 5 milion one year
KG 5 million one year
Kaman 5-6 million one year

rondo/rivers/moore
pietrus/ray/bradley
green/pierce/forward
bass/kg/johnson
kaman/ezeli/stiemsma

nice team because howard isn't coming to the boston celtics, just another year and go after free agent then, much better class of free agents, Josh Smith, James Harden,Tyreke Evans,Blake Griffin etc.
we wouldn't have any problem with "bench scoring" with this team, best NBA bench of all time and starting lineup very good too, nice depth and realistic roster.

Nice.  Something like that will do as far as I'm concerned.

Not a good team.  Too little quality/starpower in the starting line-up other than Rondo.
2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

Not a great team, but a good bridge team.  I like this approach of patiently mixing in young draft picks and prospects alongside the championship experienced roster we have now.

the concept is sound -- just a bridge team to get to the next solid FA class.  I think that starting line-up gets steamrolled by the good teams though.  I also wouldn't pay Ray and KG that much either.  Have to admit, I'm not as hyped about Rivers as many other are.  I'd just be happy if Danny took the best player available regardless of position.

I don't know about Rivers or any of the other players likely to be in this years draft; best player available works for me.  Even if this team gets steam rolled, as you say, then we have our lottery team next year, and save our cap space for what looks like a better free agency market.

The details could change, but the overall point is that the patient approach looks like it could pay bigger dividends in the long run than the blow it up now approach.

I think based on what big guys got for contracts this year that Kaman will get more than 5-6 million. I don't believe Pietrus will be accepting vet minimum next year. He's being paid >$4m from Phoenix this year plus the vet min we're paying him.

some insider information:
we are going to sign Kevin Love, his rebounding & outlet passing will make the celtics the best fast break team in nba
KG is going to retire after we win the championship this year
year after that we get dwight howard

According to this article, it seems like KG isn't retiring, so the idea of having him around to be a teacher to a younger group more than the cornerstone, doesn't  seem so farfetched. The speculations in the article about trades doesn't sound realistic to me. I believe that none of the Big 3 want to take their talents anywhere else. KG is all about loyalty, and Ray is no journeyman either. And if they come for cheap, the Celtics will have a young group of players that need mentoring, too.

I really like the idea of having KG as the defensive anchor of a 2nd unit that probably could drive the 1st unit nuts in training camp.

So would that proposed roster be good enough to contend/win division?

Also, why won't Dwight sign?
Sigh, is Boston going to be plaqued again post big 3 because NBA black players don't like Boston?

Wish they'd grow up.

  • Rondo = Good
That roster doesn't make much sense to me.  It's clearly not going to compete for a championship, but it's not bad enough to really tank for a lottery pick.  What's the point?

I don't see Ray sticking around for a rebuilding process or KG continuing to play through pain just to fight for (another) 7th or 8th seed.  It's also not in the best interests of the team for them to do so.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if the team comes to an agreement this summer with Pierce either to amnesty him and allow him to sign elsewhere, or to trade him to a team that can be competitive.

Then the roster for next season would be more like:

Rondo
Green
Bass
Free agent center (5-8 million 3-4 year deal) --> e.g. Mahinmi, Kaman
Bradley
Moore
JJJ
Stiemsma
Marquis
Clips pick rookie
Celtics pick rookie (1st round)
Celtics pick rookie (2nd round)
Vet point guard (2-5 million per year short deal) e.g. Goran Dragic / Leandro Barbosa
Vet big man (2-5 million per year short deal) --> e.g. Lou Amundson / Jason Maxiell
Vet wing (2-5 million per year short deal) --> e.g. Pietrus / C.J. Miles

That team would have some "exciting" young players and it would also 'compete' for a top 5-10 lottery pick.

So, for example:

Rondo / Barbosa / Moore
Pietrus / Bradley / Boston 2nd rounder
Green / Marquis / Clips 1st Rounder
Bass / JJJ / Amundson
Ian Mahinmi / Boston 1st Rounder / Stiemsma

Sorry but I just vomitted in my mouth.

If KG and Ray will stay on the cheap how can that hurt this team.  If anything they will be excellent leaders and role models for younger players.  Too many teams go 100% young and they never learn how to play the right way..

Kaman 7 million
KG 5
JG 5
Pietrus 3.5
RR 11

Bench
Pierce 15
Allen 5
Bass 5
JJ
Moore
Bradley
Steimer
Rookies

Would be fun for 1 year.  and then more cap space. Like the idea..

I don't agree with the stuck in mediocrity argument.  I think unless there is a clear winner in the 1st 3 picks (example Durant or Lebron), any good team can rebuild for the future with a top 15 pick.  Look at us and Dallas picking Dirk and Pierce later in the 98 draft.  In contrast look at the Bulls and Clippers wasting years of top 3 picks.

This is by all accounts a deep draft and should have lots of diamonds in the rough later on.  A team only gets stuck in mediocrity when they don't draft well.

I do like the 'realism' of the roster, not sure we'd get Rivers though!

I love how a lot of people are expecting some star powered behemoth of a team......not going to happen!
