Love, 23, who is playing for $4.6 million this season, can become a restricted free agent after the season unless he signs an extension before Jan. 25. If he opts for free agency, the Wolves would have the right to match any outside offer. Love also can return to Minnesota in 2012-13 for $6.1 million and become an unrestricted free agent after the season.

Wolves President David Kahn isn't commenting on contract talks, and Love says he's unaware of the status of negotiations. The Wolves, though, want to get Love signed by next week.

I don't think the C's could offer more (at least not significantly).  And if they are willing to offer $60 million right now, they almost certainly will match whatever the C's could offer.

Exactly.  A deal right now would be a team discount, in exchange for the security of being set for life, in case he gets injured between now, and when he hits free agency.

Looking at it this way, any of the sides may refuse to sign anything, so they both have full control. But Love assumes all the risk if he doesn't sign. All it takes is one blow to that surgically repaired knee.

I think, like you said, it all comes down as to how much he really wants to stay in Minnesota. If he doesn't want to be there, he will wait. If he doesn't care and is looking to max out the money he will play the market this year.

It sounds like K-Love enjoys playing in Minnesota + they are finally starting to put some talent around him + have signed a top notch coach in Rick Adelman. 

No question in my mind that K-Love will sign a contract extension there. A max contract.

Personally I wouldnt go much more than that but I bet the Wolves end up going higher... 25 and 14 a night is well deserving of a 4 year 60 mil extension.
