I don't like the talent we are getting back in this trade. Honestly a bunch of bench players, not one legit starter, for Pierce? No thank you.

Taj Gibson is a VERY solid player and would immediately be in our top 7-8 rotation.  I bet you that Asik would start at center for us.  He is an elite defender that is still young and could dev. a little low post offense in time.

Granted, Korver and Brewer are simply expiring contracts to make the deal work and get us some cap relief.

P.S. If I were GM, I probably would NOT have traded Perk:-))))

See, this is a "fair" offer.  It even brings us back some nice young guys with potential.  However, I have absolutely no interest in it.

Omer Asik, elite defender. Oh, how the mighty have fallen...

Gibson and Asik have been my binkies since last year.  But, I wouldn't trade Pierce for them.  Gibson/Asik for Ray Allen (who's walking at the end of the season), I'd do that in a heartbeat.  Don't think Chicago would, though.  Gibson's a very good player, he played a lot last year (and well) when Boozer was hurt.  Asik's an excellent defender and last year had some elite-level defensive rebounding numbers.  Both would play a lot, and are exactly the kind of players (young, athletic, upside) that we want to start accumulating.

For Pierce, though, the face of the franchise?  Nope.

Plus, as was noted Pierce + Deng does not work on the floor.  Ray Allen + Deng, though, would be potent.

What are you implying?

Omer Asik might indeed be one of the elite defenders in the league if he can sustain his current defensive excellence over longer periods of playing time. Very interesting prospect.

2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

The fact that Omer Asik is considered "elite" is to me indicative of how much the criteria around here have slid. Elite is someone like Howard, or Camby and Ben Wallace in their prime. Sure, Asik is solid and he can rebound, and he can rebound. But at this stage of his career he's a bench player.

I think that people forgets that Pierce has a no trade clause....

No I don't think people have, we're just assuming that if Wyc is willing to let Pierce be traded Pierce himself would have to be on board to begin with.

TP for pointing this out.  But Pierce is prideful enough that if he found out a deal was in place, he might not be willing to force us to keep him.

he doesn't have a no trade clause. Kobe and dirk are the only players in the league with a no trade clause

Not sure if he has the no-trade clause, but by opting out and the resigning, he made himself eligible to include one in his new deal:

Pierce, though, is eligible to secure a rare no-trade clause if he stays with the Celtics. Players with at least eight years of service time and at least four seasons with the same team can negotiate a no-trade provision into new contracts, which would not have been possible had Pierce agreed to an extension to his current contract before Thursday.

Blow it up trade idea (I believe works after Feb. 24):

Bos trades: Ray, Pierce, Wilcox, Dooling
Bos gets:  Deng, Asik, CJ Watson, Brewer, Quincy Pondexter

Chicago trades:  Deng, Asik, Watson, Brewer, Korver
Chicago gets:  Ray, Pierce, Wilcox, Dooling

Memphis trades:  Pondexter
Memphis gets:  Korver

-I think Thibs would love to have Ray and Pierce in his system and it would help out Rose a ton offensively.
-Korver showed last postseason that he has absolutely no business seeing the floor against Miami in a playoff series, so it would make sense for him to go out west.  I think Memphis could use a deadly spot up shooter in a conference without a lot of elite 3's that would be difficult for him to match up with defensively.
-Celtics get younger and some proven talent

OK, this trade does NOT work.  On hoopshype, it had Memphis' cap at $50M, but that is incorrect.  So Memphis would need to send out additional salary or we'd need to involve a 3rd team under the cap that would want Korver.

Another blow it up idea...

Boston trades:  Pierce, Bass
Memphis trades:  Gay, Mayo

??

I think Memphis could really use Brandon Bass w/ the Z-Bo injury.

Bad trade for Chicago. Guts their bench. Not worth it.
