One more master plan for the pot, I realize there a lot of IFs in here, but:

1) Pierce to Denver for Chandler (4 years $30M), Miller (waive him so he can sign where he wants).

2) Garnett + future 1st rounder for Josh Smith

3) Resign Ray Allen

4) Cap room for a max free agent

Rondo = $12M
Ray Allen = $5M
Chandler = $7M
Smith = $13M
Howard = MAX

Add in JJJ, 2 1st rounders, the MLE, maybe Stiesmsma, Moore or Bass...

Would Howard be tempted by a Rondo / Allen / Chandler / Smith lineup? We know Smith and Rondo are tight, and Howard is the kind of center that would complement Smith defensively. We'd have 4 scorers, youth, rebounding, defense, at least 3 guys on rookie contracts...

That would be really nice. A very athletic team that would have enough shooting in Allen & Chandler to spread the floor.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
All of this is actually not totally unreasonable, so I applaud you for the effort. I am not sure what to think about Wilson Chandler, but he is the kind of player/contract that we really need going forward and the other players would at least entice Howard.

Free throws sure would be a problem, fun and awesomeness would not be.

Thanks that's kind of what I was going for =). What I like about this team specifically:

1) Excellent rebounding - Rondo & Howard both near the top of their positions, JSmith has been close to 9RPG the last couple of years, Chandler a 5-6 RPG guy.

2) Excellent shot blocking - Howard, Smith and Chandler (check him out, he's around 1 BPG while playing the 2 and 3 spots).

3) Excellent defense - Howard and Rondo of course, but Chandler and Smith are also both around 6'8" and "long". What a nightmare to face.

4) Scoring - Howard is good for 20+, Chandler and Allen are both 15-20 PPG players, Smith around 15 PPG and Rondo 10-15.

5) Fast break - Chandler and Smith can run, and Allen can still trail a break.

What a nightmare to match up against they would be. Can you imagine trying to score with Howard underneath, Rondo at the point, and Smith + Chandler running around? Talk about "wingspan" on that team. And when you turn it over, they can run out with Rondo, Smith and Chandler. Double team Howard? Oops, Ray Allen open for 3. Need some 2nd chances? Fat chance with the way these guys rebound.

OK I'm overdoing it now, but I like my new fantasy team!

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
Very solid team, the only thing its lacking is a go to scorer.

I'd try to get Danny Granger in that mix, probably at the cost of Chandler, Allen, and fillers.

The defense on that type of team would be ridiculous.

Good start, but I doubt The Hawks would even contemplate trading Smith for Garnett.

Howard is obviously a pipe dream, but there are always people like Javale McGee.

I thought Josh Smith has a bad contract?

over 2 years (12 mil/13 mil)... that's not a bad contract.

KG + 1st rounder for Josh Smith doesn't work... and makes little sense for Atlanta.  Only way I see Atlanta moving Josh Smith is if they also get someone to take on Joe Johnson's horrible contract: 18 mil, 20 mil, 21 mil, 23 mil, 25 mil.... OUCH

KG and Ray (both expiring) for Josh Smith and Joe Johnson works.

They're not trading smith and Teague for bradly and pierce.

Ray Allen needs to go, can't pass, or defend anymore. Guy gets trapped on every pick and roll like he's Avery Bradley.
