Rasheed Wallace has given indications that he wants to make a return - and he astutely never filed retirement papers when he left the Celtics after the 2009-10 season.
While the Celtics don’t regret signing Wallace to a two-year deal, they were disappointed that he did not work himself into top condition that season. He had to come out of Game 7 of the NBA Finals because of exhaustion.
Wallace may have some value around the league as a top post defender despite his age (37). But the Celtics will not be in the market for an aging center whose casual approach was a concern even when he was surrounded by role models such as Pierce, Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett.

another indicator that Danny either doesn't see the center position as a problem or isn't really interested in turning this current roster into a contender.
Or Danny has already been burned by a fat, out of shape Rasheed Wallace and has decided he won't let it happen again.
I don't see how you can come to that conclusion(center not a problem or he is uninterested in making the team better and a contender) about Danny simply because he won't sign a player who, if signed, would be making his first appearance in 19 months, would be amongst the oldest players in the league and who, when he left, was out of shape for an entire year while collecting $6 million from the Celtics.
well he is better than what we have now and he actually was a valuable member of that Title appearing team that he was so out of condition for...
the revisionist history is pretty intense for Sheed. he was a disappointment during the regular season but definitely stepped it up in the playoffs....I wanted him back the next season, anyway...
Revisionist history is saying he helped that year at all. He played much better in the playoffs of 2010 than the regular season but in actuality he really only had two good games in that Finals, games 2 and 7. and a few good games in the previous series. Other than that he played pretty poorly. People seem to completely forget the utter no show he had in games 3,4 and 6 of the Finals.
As for whether he is better than what we currently have, I wonder. Have you seen him lately? Have you seen him play recently? Can he even get up and down the floor? I wouldn't be making that statement and be thinking about 2007 Rasheed when what you might be getting is a guy 30 pounds overweight that can't run the floor, can't jump, can't maneuver in the paint and is only willing to hang 25 feet from the basket on offense and chuck bad shots.
I don't agree, nick. I think people got so frustrated with Sheed during the season, they were unable to be swayed by his post season contributions and were left with the fat and lazy assessment.
The Cs became to the 09 Cs in the playoffs. They had that edge to them and Sheed was a big part of it.
As far as game-by -game analysis of Sheed's playoff contributions, even the best bench players have that pattern. it's the nature of being a bench player. overall, he was a big part of that squad almost taking home another Title IMO.
and because of that, if I were Danny, I certainly would not be turning my nose up at him. especially given our current center rotation.
how can you be so indignant toward Sheed when you are getting steamrolled in the paint?
