Rasheed Wallace Contemplating Comeback
Jan 13, 2012

http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=aw-wojnarowski_rasheed_wallace_nba_return_011212

Rasheed Wallace is contemplating a comeback to the NBA, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Wallace, who retired after 15 seasons in 2010, has been working out and probing some close league friends about possible destinations to sign for the rest of the season, sources said.

At 6-foot-11, Wallace, 37, had been one of the most versatile and talented power forwards of his era. One league source who has talked with Wallace recently describes him as “serious” about a return to the NBA this season. Nevertheless, no teams contacted by Yahoo! Sports reported that they had any contact with Wallace, or his representative.

When reached on Friday, Wallace’s agent, Bill Strickland, would only tell Yahoo! Sports’ Marc Spears: “As a veteran player, [Wallace] knows what it takes to be reinstated.”

Wallace holds appeal for several contending teams, but all wonder about his shape and conditioning after sitting out 18 months. Wallace played 79 regular season games for the Celtics in his final year, but the organization never felt he truly got into playing shape until the playoff run to the NBA Finals in 2010. In a limited role, several GMs told Yahoo! they still believe his scoring and defending ability would probably be better than anyone else available to them.

One NBA GM with potential interest in signing Wallace said, “I’d be worried about his conditioning in a condensed season.”

In his 15 seasons with Washington, Portland, Atlanta, Detroit and Boston, Wallace averaged 14.6 points and 6.7 rebounds.

Any1 who  posts something against of getting Sheed back is a totally ignorant. Why would I say that? Look at how the Celtics will play on MLK vs. OKC and lets see if we need help in the post offense/defense(regardless of win or not).
Jameer an elite PG?Please, ask that to his garbage highlights.

There's no question the C's need to improve their post presense; but is a 37 year old Sheed who didn't come to BOS in shape 2 years ago the answer?  Probably not.

True.

The guy'd have 6 fouls like everyone else, though, and actually isn't afraid to use them.  We need that...heck, we need SOMETHING to stop the dunk fest.

If Walton or Googs could walk, I'd take them.

Sheed and Toine would both be good foulers.  I'd take 'em.

Actually, Toine plays with heart.  He actually loves basketball.  I'd take that over some of these guys right about now.

  • It's what I do! It's who I am!
ugh, no thanks. Watching Sheed's lack of effort was enough for one season.

the problem with rasheed is that...he came into camp out of shape back in 2009-10 season..and it took him a whole year to get back in shape..that was after having played basketball the year before.

now imagine him not having played basketball in nearly 2 years

I don't know about 'totally ignorant', but I would certainly welcome Sheed back on to the team. The 09-10 version of Sheed is exactly what we need right now. I don't know if he is just a shell of himself, but I would at least like to find out...I am also ALL about bringing back 'Toine, too :0)

moves like signing rasheed are what put us where we are now, we should have looked to younger less proven players to fill our bench when we where still a top team in the east not the aged ring hunting vets

We loved Toine so much back in 1996 that we drafted him ahead of Kobe Bryant. Well, that was a no-brainer. Who is Kobe Bryant, after all? At least Toine has a ring. Kobe has any????

Ignorant huh? I would expect people from Canada to be kinder. You're generally such nice fastidious people.

Personally I think picking up Sheed (and this is me knowing absolutely zero about his conditioning levels or his mental state. I don't imagine that is a condition shared by Danny Ainge) is a lot like plugging a hole in a sinking ship with a colander.

IE, its not making the problem worse, but its not a solution either.

Sheed is probably more inmobile that KG, plus he is a walking TF (Technical Foul)> I bet Sheed would get so frustrated with his inmobility that he would constantly grab at his opponent to keep him in check and would foul out in less than 3 minutes per game. A lot of help he would be. But of course you are only kidding about wanting him back, arent you???????? :-*
