Scals was I interviewed on Toucher and Rich today and had a couple noteworthy things to say about the Celtics.

Mentioned that the Celtics play and are playing playoff type basketball right.now as far as the style. Says that they are one of the few teams in the NBA that will run multiple plays and sets in games and that they rely on their shooting.

He said how in the playoffs you can't rely on athleticism/getting to the rim/getting free throws because every team of better defensively and close you down more, therefore you have to rely on jump shooting a lot more.

Trying to paraphrase the best I can but some of what he was saying was encouraging. IMO the Celtics always have their gameplan  for the game and the season and they arent just going to abandon it in the short term because that won't help in the long run. You may get a few extra wins in the regular season but if it isn't going to help you in the bigger picture as far as continuity/chemistry than it doesn't matter much.

Anyway another thing he mentioned its how shooters take a while to get in rhythm. Mentioned that a guy like Rondo would have no problem jumping in right away and playing fine. Said he was shocked that ray is shooting this well out of the gates, and how others (pierce, kg) could take time to get in that rhythm.

I think Scals is an extremely bright basketball mind, and I think this is pretty good analysis. We don't need to abandon or game plan because we arent where we want to be ten games in, especially with shortened training camp, and how we are designed to play.

I think a lot of people are mistaking "timing" and "old.

Scal did a woman's basketball game with Mike Gorman I think.  He needs to replace Marshall as soon as he can't find a job in the NBA anymore.

He was on a Celtics game for a bit too, I think. I wasn't impressed.

Of course he's gonna say good things about his old team. They paid him 3 mil a year for five years... for a scrub.

And, they are still out of shape...another big factor in shooting. ( in this league) They will do better....but how much is the question.

Not really,  just flip through stations whenever there are commercials on my morning drive to work. Was pumped when I heard the Scal interview though, always an entertaining interview....why?

Do you disagree with what he is saying?

He didn't say they are a title contender or anything like that (which I think is stupid to think about this early in the season anyway) he was basically just stating facts about how our team and players and how they are constructed.

Sounded pretty spot on. We are a team of shooters and unless he is lying about us running more plays than other teams or shooters taking a while to get in a rhythm I don't think he is pretty accurate.

A lot more sensible opinions than the standard panicky Celtic fan screaming "trade KG he is old!!" "Pierce can't play anymore he's done!!" "they missed a lay up they can't jump anymore!!!"

Completely agree.

I find it hard to believe that Pierce and KG have just fallen completely off the map from last year (in which case they had very good years) just as much as I find it hard to believe that Ray Allen is going to shoot 60% from 3 the whole year.

We need to give this thing some time.

The last thing the big three needs is more time under their belt. Blow it up! I would rather watch young guys losing, than live in denial for a season. This isn't a title contender this year, and is a lottery team next year.

  • Rondo = Good
Scal is a smart basketball mind, no doubt.  There's no way he would have been in the league so long otherwise.

I think he could make a good coach someday.
