Scals was I interviewed on Toucher and Rich today and had a couple noteworthy things to say about the Celtics.
Mentioned that the Celtics play and are playing playoff type basketball right.now as far as the style. Says that they are one of the few teams in the NBA that will run multiple plays and sets in games and that they rely on their shooting.
He said how in the playoffs you can't rely on athleticism/getting to the rim/getting free throws because every team of better defensively and close you down more, therefore you have to rely on jump shooting a lot more.
Trying to paraphrase the best I can but some of what he was saying was encouraging. IMO the Celtics always have their gameplan for the game and the season and they arent just going to abandon it in the short term because that won't help in the long run. You may get a few extra wins in the regular season but if it isn't going to help you in the bigger picture as far as continuity/chemistry than it doesn't matter much.
Anyway another thing he mentioned its how shooters take a while to get in rhythm. Mentioned that a guy like Rondo would have no problem jumping in right away and playing fine. Said he was shocked that ray is shooting this well out of the gates, and how others (pierce, kg) could take time to get in that rhythm.
I think Scals is an extremely bright basketball mind, and I think this is pretty good analysis. We don't need to abandon or game plan because we arent where we want to be ten games in, especially with shortened training camp, and how we are designed to play.
I think a lot of people are mistaking "timing" and "old.
