No Pierce isnt going anywhere he is just in a funk

I wouldn't even call it a funk. He missed the entire training camp after an extended offseason and is only a few games back from an injury.

He's missed extended time before, but he's never looked like Josh Childress in the process of coming back.

Actually, yes he has.  I've read plenty of "Paul Pierce is done" threads on here after watching him take his time rounding into game shape after coming back from nagging injuries.

I may be a homer (yeah, I'm a homer), but I feel pretty sure that Paul Pierce has a little more game left in him than what we've seen in these last two.

He's out of shape.  Certainly doesn't mean he's done.

Now if he keeps this up the entire season...yes, I'd say there's a very good chance of it

Either this Summer or next.  Bank on it.

This is PP's fairwell tour one way and I hope all fans recognize that.

How would this make any logical sense for the organization? So dumb.

I realize fans love PP.  I love the guy as much as the next fan.  But do we really want to trot him out there when we are in full rebuilding mode, which seems will happen next year no matter what.

For my part, I wouldn't hate DA for letting PP go because frankly, even if PP wants to keep playing, I would rather see him be in a good situation (than in BOS in a bad one).

Makes a lot of sense really.

I've seen him play better than this while he was still injured...

I have too.  Although heal injuries are special.  If his heal is acting up again, I would expect him to play like last night.  When it hurts any time you put weight on your heal, it makes it hard to do much of anything.

I honestly don't know what to make of it though.  I think its a combination of things.  He is out of shape, probably still hurting, and a year older.  Perfect recipe for terrible basketball.  I just hope he can come out of it, because if he is not a major impact player, this team is toast.

Because fans more about winning than keeping long-standing players.  If they can sign a current all-star with the money due to Pierce - they HAVE to do it

It's not just the heel, though. This is pretty much his first week or so of basketball since May, isn't it? Last year he was one of the better small forwards in the league. I seriously doubt he dropped all the way down to regularly playing at the level he has the last couple of games.

No way Pierce gets amnestied unless its with his blessing.

This guy has been the face of the franchise for close to 15 years.  The torch bearer of his generation for Celtics greats.  The organization exercises common sense here.

Easy to say now.  Much harder to stick to when that cap room is the difference between bringing on Kevin Love or being a lottery team

It's not gonna happen.

Since when are those two things mutually exclusive?

I think there's a better chance of Gerald Green being our leading scorer next season than Pierce being amnestied.

Perhaps the OP is forgetting that Pierce had no training camp, preseason, and still needs time to get back into the swing of things (both physically and mentally).

It isn't just about whether PP can still play.  It's about keeping him during rebuilding years versus potentially bringing in someone younger and for the future.  I understand what PP means to the organization.  But it seems to me that this will come to a head at some point before PP's contract expires.

Its a possibility, but I think they only do it with his blessing, and likely would only be after he decides to retire.

I think there is a legitimate possibility both Pierce and KG retire after this season, and if Pierce retires, they will likely work out a buyout, and amnesty the money remaining (or something like that).
I think there is zero chance PP gets amnestied without his retirement. I know we are fans of the team and not of the players but if this was done against his wishes then Danny would be run out of town by the masses and it wouldn't be pretty. I also think Danny knows that.
How can you be a fan of the "team and not the players" when the players are what make up the team. What are you a fan of, the logo? Wyc Grousbeck?
