Its a possibility, but I think they only do it with his blessing, and likely would only be after he decides to retire.

I think there is a legitimate possibility both Pierce and KG retire after this season, and if Pierce retires, they will likely work out a buyout, and amnesty the money remaining (or something like that).
I can't see Pierce retiring this summer. Garnett, yes. Pierce, no.

Pierce has only just turned 34.

I agree.  Pierce is is the one of the Aged Three who is not already the best of what we can hope him to be on the season.  KG I fully expect to retire.  He doesn't want to play as a shell of himself in coming years IMO.

I expect them to amnesty Pierce in 2013 instead of buying him out for 4 mil.  Use the cap space to add to Rondo and whoever we add in the 2012 offseason.

He'd have to decline precipitously to warrant its use before then.
2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

I just think Pierce has value to the franchise that goes beyond what he gives on the court.  If he were to quietly go to Ainge and ask to be traded or amnestied, to not be part of the rebuilding process, I think Ainge would be overjoyed and accommodate him.

If it's not something that Pierce wants, though, I don't think ownership agrees to just let him go.  Pierce has been the face of the franchise, he represents this whole (tremendous) era of Celtics basketball.  They want Pierce to come to the Garden, watch the games in 2020 and get a standing O from the crowd.  They want him to hand out the Sixth Man award.  They want him to come in to camp and talk to the rookies about what Celtic Pride means.

If Pierce wants a chance to go play somewhere else, they'll let him.  Maybe he'll want to go play with Chris Paul in his hometown.

When Pierce leaves, though, it'll be an amicable split.

Pierce already has buyout language in his contract - if he's not up to playing anymore, he'll work something out with the team

don't see much point to this discussion, but oh well

I get the sense that this is correct.

If next year is full rebuild mode, I hope Danny gifts Pierce to a contender that's not the Heat, Lakers, or Knicks (like maybe Thunder, Bulls, or Clips) with Pierce's approval.  Maybe the C's can get a decent prospect or two, or some late draft picks, anything to help stock the assets, and at the same time make it harder for the teams we hate to win.  Win-win all around.

More likely he'll be bought out or amnestied (amicably though).

Amnesty will never happen for him.  he's here until he retires.

I see him playing probably 2 more years after this one at least unless injuries just take him out of the game.

If they DO blow up this team, I want to see Ray Allen in Chicago (Ray >>>>>> Rip Hamilton).  Just kind of feels like it would be a good fit, and I'd love to see Thibs and crew be able to knock off Miami.

Pierce, I don't want to see him go but seeing him play for the Clippers wouldn't suck.  I don't think he would go play for the Lakers (Kobe/Pierce is a nonsensical combination); Pierce is no Johnny Damon, I don't think he'd do it anyway.  I also don't think he'd fit alongside Wade and LeBron, or next to 'Melo.

The Clippers, though...  he'd certainly improve that team, and it seems like it'd be a nice Karmic fit.

The Thunder; ****, we already gave them Perk!

Don't want to see Pierce go anywhere, though.  Ray Allen...   love him, but he's an assassin.  Don't want to see them sign him to an extension, rather have the cap space.

I could see him wanting to go to the Clippers. It would benefit him and the C's.

a clear trend is happening with the big 3 right now.

ray is playing consistent, but with the amount of running and how much time hes on the court, hes gonna slow down and lose the energy as the season progresses. that said, i have a feelign hes going to be traded at the deadline (hes the only valuable chip we have) for a pick and young player.

for whatever reason, kg already looks slowed down for the season. he has lost so much energy. he doesnt look like he has that fire anymore. i cant see him coming off the bench. hes one of those types who either goes at 100%, or he wont go. he retires at the end of the year.

so with both of them gone, pierce will ask to be traded. when he realizes nobody wants to take on his contract, he'll agree to be amnnistied.

and thus begins the rebuilding.

I wouldn't even call it a funk. He missed the entire training camp after an extended offseason and is only a few games back from an injury.

He's missed extended time before, but he's never looked like Josh Childress in the process of coming back.
