I'm not really concerned at all.  I resigned myself at the start of the season that the Celtics are not a championship team.  I'll continue to watch and root for my Celtics, but I don't think they're going anywhere this year. I think the run is over. :(.... unless they make some big trade that could put them over the top.  I have no idea what that trade could be though.

I'm very concerned right now, but willing to wait another couple weeks before I pronounce any personal judgments - but that's just me

We have the same record and points differential as the Cavs right now.  Yes the Cleveland Caviliers!  That wouldn't mean so much after 2 or 3 games.  But after 9 games of a 66 game season were already 14% into the year.

But the record alone is not the cause for concern; it's the way we played.  We basically deserve to be a 4-5 or worse team given the effort that's been put out.

I truly believe a few lineup changes and small trades could fix a lot of problems. Send Pierce and JO to the bench and Pietrus and Steamer to start. Trade or acquire a pure pg to backup Rondo.

Pierce, JO, Dooling, Bass, and pure backup pg would dominate most second units. And Rondo, Allen, Pietrus, Kg, and Steamer could run on most 1st teams.

I'm not saying this team could win a championship, but we would look a lot better.

The team is still kind of in training camp / pre-season mode.  Our guys are rusty, and the older guys seem to have more rust.

Give Pierce and KG a couple more weeks to get in shape.  We should be okay.  Perhaps not a top-level contender, but still top four in the East.

I think we'll make the playoffs, and even if we scrape our way in as a seventh or eighth seed, we could give a strong battle against either of the two Eastern conference powerhouses.

At this point, I'd almost prefer to face Miami in the first round.  Get the upset out of the way early, and, then no matter what happens after that, I would consider this a successful season.

Feel this way too. Was hoping maybe jeff green would blossom and some how turn into a semi-start (high hopes) but once he was done lost some of that hope. I knew the Cs wouldn't be dominant but I still am believing. If we get to the playoffs healthy, with our will, sense of urgency, coach, and hopefully a pg who has raised his game even more, anything can happen.

the thing is last year the Celtics couldn't close out games in the 4th quarter in the playoffs last year.  They played like a team full of old men that just couldn't go hard all game long especially the good teams.  They are now older and the schedule will not bode well for them.

The Celtics are done as a contender and have been since the beating the Heat put on them in last years playoffs.  If the Celtics don't start to play well they might not even make the playoffs, which would be a very sad ending to the run (I think they will make the playoffs but even reaching the second round will be an accomplishment).

Ainge really should see what sort of value he can get for anyone on this team.  It it time to rebuild and begin again.  Sad but true.

I'm concerned that the players were more involved with CBA negotiations than staying in shape.  These are professionals for crying out loud.  Unless they were planning to throw the season away, how could they not see this type of schedule coming and prepare for it--particularly this set of vets knowing this was their last chance?

I'm not ready to throw in the towel yet on this season.  I think we'll have a much better idea of this team's capabilities at the 20 or 25 game mark.  if they're still floundering, it's not the conditioning, it's the talent or lack thereof.

If a 7-8 seed is looking like a probability then, I think I'd seriously prefer they miss the playoffs completely and get into the lottery for a better pick to start rebuilding--either as a much better trade asset or using it to get what would project out to be a probable starting-quality player.

While I agree with this completely.  My worry is that they are in the easiest part of their schedule.  If they do not gain some ground before the end of January, it is going to be really hard for them to fight back later in the season, as they will have a lot more road games and back to backs.

But, if they can just work themselves into shape, be healthy, and get into the playoffs, they will have a punchers chance.

One thing to remember -- the Celts play more home games this month than any other month this season. They are very likely going to end January with a sub-.500 record. They have a 4-day break this month and will have no more of those the rest of the season. They have many more back-to-backs, and well as a back-to-back-to-back. My guess. They will be slightly better than .500, a 6th through 8th seed, and a first round out.

we're 4-5, with bulls, pacers, thunder coming up.  based on how the team has played so far this season, we're looking at a 4-8 or 5-7 team come next tuesday.

make of that what you will.

SO what if we are 4 and 8 or 5 and 7 on January 17? As long as they provide tangible evidence of improvement and increased appetite of competing then there is hope. If I see more uncontested layups at the hoop, lack of effort on the boards, and not hustling up and down the court over the next 10 to 15 games than I will switch and call for a Blowing Up of this Green Pig.

Right now I happen to think they are breathing that poisenous green gas that floated 200 miles down wind from the Rex Ryan Air Center in New Jersey. It has affected all green teams within 300 miles radius of the Meadowlands.
The beatings will continue until morale improves

Okay, maybe I'm overreacting but I'm sticking with a 500 team that beats bad teams and loses to desent one. I won't list all my reasons but I will say the 2 biggest.
1) they are old and don't move very well on D (which is what won them games) or rebound.

2) have NO center. JO has looked awful and Stemroller ar whatever he's called is a half way desent back up. Don't even get me started on Wilcox. players on other teams are going right to th hoop and no one is there to stop them.

It happens. It's a rebuilding year. Next year it appears the Celtics will have plenty of money to spend and a couple of 1st. If they keep playing like this, one of those first could be fairly high.

Don't think I'm overreacting, just realistic. I'll still watch and cheer for them.

I held it in until now. I no longer blame posters for overreacting after last nights game. While I dont think we should "blow it up" or fire doc, danny, etc. something needs to be done soon and/or someone needs to step up their game (big 4)
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.
