It's an overreaction to say the Celtics aren't going to make the playoffs. Even if they start 4-8, there's still 54 more games after that. And in case nobody noticed, the East sucks. These young teams will go on runs, but they'll also have slumps. I don't believe the Sixers are going to the league darlings all year. Atlanta too.
It's not an overreaction to say this isn't a championship team. It's probably not even a conference semifinalist. It's too bad, as this team might have been a dynasty if KG didn't blow out that knee. The window was pretty close to shut after the injuries to Perk and Sheed in the finals. It closed after the injuries/deals last season. And it locked shut after Jeff Green's physical. But honestly, once the Heat got together and Thibs taught the Bulls to play D, the C's days were numbered.
Some people flip out, demand ridiculous trades, and call for every rookie and d-leaguer. Me, I just think it's part of the cycle of things. I'm going to enjoy watching some of my all-time favorite Celts finish out their years, then I'm going to start judging Danny's rebuilding project.
Who knows, maybe we'll get another great Cs-Pacers playoff series like the last time we had an aging, post-championship window team: That was one of my favorites:
