Brooks played both Forward and Guard and Providence College.
He was listed as both.
Obviously, he can play both SF or SG.
Playing SF in college does not make you a SF in the NBA anymore than playing C in college makes you an NBA center. Derrick Williams played a lot of center in Az, Landry Fields was a PF at Stanford.
Guys who are 6'5 can play SF, but they have to be able to defend the SF spot, and score on taller, longer players. I highly doubt Brooks can defend 3's.
Why can't he defend 3s? I dont think he should have any real reason to, since his natural position appears to be SG and he's having success playing the 2, but whats stopping him from guarding 3s?
People on this site say Bradley can guard 2s all day because of his athleticism, long arms, and speed...Brooks has all of those things and another 4 inches. If Bradley can guard 2 guards (I personally dont think he really can), then Brooks should be able to guard SFs.
Im afraid we're going to look back on dealing Brooks with big time regret. Its not just missing out on a player who ends up being a 2nd round surprise. He fell down to us, and we had him. To lose him after that will hurt.
Every game he plays, he's chipping away at the critics. First, he could only score against bad teams...then he couldn't play d...then he couldn't rebound. Now he can't pass. What are we going to say once he gets his 1st triple double? The fact is, he's a baller. For a 1st year player, his skills look great. Ricky Rubio is the only other rookie looking nearly as polished, and he's been a pro since he was 13.
