I love this thread so much. Makes me want to go out and practice my free throws  :D

Yup.... Me too. I've got my FTs up to 70% already... and I'm going to keep working at it.

Maybe I can teach young Rondo a lesson or two about the value of persistence and discipline.

On 2nd thought..... probably not.

Next I'm going to work on a serviceable jumper.

DH

Ever see Rondo, with his off hand, dribble all the way behind his back and continue to dribble with the same hand at full speed when he's on a break? Why not perfect that move next?

Because moves like that sell t-shirts. They don't win or lose games

Maybe. Doing that particular move might not win a game, but having the ball-handling skills necessary to do it certainly will.

For one, it's a generally useless show-off move.

Then, he's palming the ball half of the time, but I guess such technicalities are not important in today's NBA.

Naw.... I'm going to stick with the meat and potato fundamentals like hitting my FTs and 15 foot jumpers at least until I'm fundamentally sound.(Red would approve.)

After that, who knows?

The hot doggin' fast breakin' full speed 360 dribble I'll leave to young PGs who think that constitutes  winning basketball.

Ok, ok. My first couple of choices involved passes, but that's not the kind of thing you can practice on your own.

Edit: Red would approve of whatever you did to help his team win, not whether you completely mastered the free throw and 15 foot shot before you worked on other skills. You're thinking of Norman Dale.

Dude, are you a celtics fan? Every post I see from you is something knocking the Celtics and every player on the team.

This is all he needs to do. Seriously this is all.

I was wrong. You don't even have to be a higher order ape.  You don't even have to have text book form.

The realistic thing there is, like with most anything else, some people, even with extensive practice, will not be able to do that as well as others can. Just like with free throws. Also like free throw shooting, you won't really be able to tell by watching someone how much or how little they practice it.

To address your first point: The thing about flashy behind-the-back stuff is not the act itself but rather when (or if) it's applied in a game situation. Fancy plays can be the best thing a b-ball player contributes out on the court. It's knowing *when* to use those "Globetrotter moves" that differentiates a good basketball player from an average basketball player.

Point II: Rondo palms, LeBron travels, Kobe bi0tches. If you watch the NBA you know rules are applied differently depending whose hands the ball is in. Our plight is to deal with it.

Funny stuff. Monkey looks very relaxed and has a nice stroke.

I certainly don't cringe watching  this primate shoot FTs, unlike when I watch our AS PG shoots his.

Shawn Marion is a career 81% FT shooter with this form:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QBLlXddUGK8

There is always hope.

You laugh, but that is a really short, efficient stroke.

Hardly any movement at all before his release.

It is easy to train your body to repeat that motion every time versus repeating a form with as much wasted motion as Rondos.

I don't laugh - if you can shoot FTs at 80% by lobbing them underhand with your eyes closed than thats what you should do.  I also hate Rondos form - looks uncomfortable.

Rondo has got to find a way to make it work. There is no excuse for a 6'1" guard to shoot FTs at a career 62% clip and regress to 57% in his 5th year (his average in college was 58%).

I think its safe to say that his ceiling is 70% (which I'd glady take).

I'm a Celtics fan, not a Celtics fanboy.

Also, I'd suggest you contact one of the moderators to explain to you what personal attacks constitute in this forum -- this is the second time you clearly display you have no solid grasp of the concept.

Revisiting this now that Rondo is shooting an even 30% from the line.  I just can't shake how embarrassing this is.  There were audible boos at the Garden the other night as he was clanking away for the brick hat trick to end the game.  If something isn't working why not make some changes?  It just seems unprofessional for a guard to be this poor from the line.

Ridiculous.
