I don't think Gerald Henderson would add much value to the Celtics (in the short term, this season).

He is a one position player and with Ray Allen gobbling up 34+ minutes at that position already there simply isn't enough minutes for Henderson to make a large impact out there.

Having a young, versatile, healthy back-up 2 who is an excellent defender would go a long way towards ensuring Ray continues to play at the level he is in the first two weeks of the season. It also reduces the exposure of other players on the team, particularly injury prone ones like Daniels and Pietrus, again increasing our chances to have much needed fresh legs later in the year.

I love what I've seen out of GH's defense against top 2s. He'd be a solid upgrade to our bench at SG -- don't see much question there.

Always find in interesting when some feel we'd be giving up too much, some feel it wouldn't be enough..... a 'king's ransom' vs. 'a pile of spare parts and unremarkable picks'.....

I wasn't talking about what the Celtics are giving up in the trade.

Just that there aren't enough minutes available for G.Henderson to make much of a difference to the C's chances this season. It's a bad spot for him ... being caught behind Ray Allen.

Tough to make a (large) difference when you're only playing 12-15mpg.

Agreed.  Acquiring a talented combo guard who could play 20-25mpg backing up Rondo and Ray would make more of a difference.  Some-one who could replace the Dooling/Daniels role and fill out the 9-man rotation with Pietrus, Bass and Wilcox (with Stiemsma, Daniels and Dooling available for situational minutes).

There are certainly more that 12-15 mins per game for Henderson, especially considering Ray simply should not play over 30 mins per game this regular season. The man is also in the final year of his contract -- Henderson is not.

Otherwise, I'd rather have a versatile wing that a combo guard right now. Rondo's the one who should play higher minutes. And Dooling is exactly that -- a combo guard. Henderson would immediately become the top wing on the Cs bench, when you factor the histories of Daniels and Pietrus.

Allen, Pierce, Henderson, Pietrus, Daniels.
Is this enough against Wade, Lebron? or Hamilton,Deng
