The Sixers and Grizzlies are in advanced talks on a three-team trade also involving the Hornets.

Marreese Speights would go to the Grizzlies, Xavier Henry to the Hornets, while Philadelphia would acquire two future picks.

The trade is on course to be completed on Wednesday.

I thought henry was a pretty highly rated prospect. Don't understand why Mem wants Speights that bad, he plays no D and is a jump shooter.

They need size from somewhere, and Xavier Henry hasn't really cracked their rotation.

the question is how does Philly get 2 picks for Speights?  Also, that does seem to be shortchanging Henry a bit.

Xavier Henry could make a nice starting two guard for the Sixers.

Speights would really help the Grizzlies. They need his size an athleticism with Artur and ZBo both hurt.

I understand very much why Memphis would want to do this trade, its' great for them.

They lost Arthur to injury off the bench, and he played a big role for them last year.  They need a backup and Speights, though he has had issues, still has a lot of potential.  He hasn't been able to play much on the 76ers but in Memphis he'll get playing time on a team that features bigs, so if he's ever going to develop and become a good player this is the situation.

Henry is kind of redundant for them.  He is talented sure but they need the backup big position filled.

Smart trade for Memphis I like it a lot.

Oh, okay then. Huh ... it just made so much sense that X.Henry would go to Phily. That is disappointing. Henry could have been a nice long term fit alongside Iggy and E.Turner.

Not sure I understand why New Orleans would give up a pick to land X.Henry when they already have Eric Gordon. Future All-Star, possible max-contract player. Why give up a first round pick for a backup? A 10-12mpg backup two?

Plus, in the short-term, they have Marco Belinelli who does a serviceable enough job. It's not like they are desperately short-handed there either. I see no long term or short term benefit to this for New Orleans.

Edit: Nevermind, two second round picks. Okay, I am very slow on the uptake today.

That is a good trade for New Orleans.

It'd be interesting to see Speights get some more minutes.

He could be a 20-10 player in this league if he ever bothered to play any defense.

Not sure if it's ideal, as I'm not that familiar with Henry, but he is tall enough to play SF at least.  You could have him backing up both positions or starting at SF with Ariza coming off the bench.  This would bury Aminu in the rotation though, and he is a guy who just needs more playing time to develop now... so yeah not ideal but I can see how it could work.

Also, he is another asset.  They are piling them up at this point and you can see the potential for a trade with all those young assets.

Phily should kick New Orleans out of the deal and take X.Henry.

Then dump Jodie Meek's behind out of the rotation.

Interesting that the Griz are trading Henry and not Mayo.  I don't think the Cs have much of anything memphis would want but I would love it if DA could steal Mayo from them.

Henry was in line to battle for rotation minutes this year in Memphis, but he sprained his ankle pretty severely (grade 2 sprain i think?) and, combined with the lockout, missed out on an opportunity to develope within the organization.

He's been sidelined since early December, but should be getting back on the court within the next week and a half/2 weeks.  If he's progressing well, this is a good deal for both the Grizz and the Hornets.  Low risk for NOH in a 2nd round pick for a guy that could spell Gordon and potentially battle for minutes at the 3.  I think that, for a playoff team as loaded at the wings as the Grizz, the missed time for Henry was putting him too-far behind the 8-ball.

2 second round picks for Speights.  Why aren't we getting in on that?
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner
