I think 2 years at $5 mil per year would be suitable

Yikes.  Sure, he might be worth it, but at who's expense?  Those FA's we think are walking through that door?

Not wise to tie up money in an aging complementary player, even a smooth one like Ray.

I don't think that's true at all.  We can argue over the price but everyone would love to play with a guy like Ray Allen as long as the dollar amount is reasonable.  You don't think Miami has been trying to get him away from us for example?

Sure they (and the Knicks) would like Ray, lots of teams would, but the price is a pretty important factor these days.

If Ray will take Eddie House money, sure.  That's either a minimum deal or a fraction of the MLE, not $5M per for multiple years.  And I think 2 years is being generous.

Let's keep in mind what it takes to get Ray those high % and points totals:  a total team committment to get him open (triple staggered screens, Rondo passing - that's the whole team working to get Ray a 20+ft jumper).  It's not like he's getting those 20pts on his own.  The stats are a bit of a mirage.

This is stupid.  If anything, Ray is putting up those percentages DESPITE playing without a point guard who is able to get him the ball when he is open.  Ray's efficiency would be off the charts higher if he was playing for an offense that actually looked for his shots.

Ray Allen is no longer capable of generating a high number of looks for himself. His amazing efficiency is a product of his reduced offensive shot creation role for this Celtics team as well as the excellent passing from KG/Rondo/PP.

I don't think an offense can really feature Ray Allen any more than the C's already do. I guess if he played with a dominant passer and shot creator like LBJ (instead of Wade) he'd get more chances but that's probably it.

I'm thinking something along the lines of 9M for 3 years. In the NBA you always need shooters and even at 40 you can't leave him open. Ray at 40 will still be better than Korver, Kapono, and other 3 pt specialists are now.

I think we need the money to go after a max player. If we could get him for a two year deal in which he makes substantially less next year and signing him for less than his cap hold.

Could we renounce his rights then sign him to two years for the under the cap mle?
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

I'd like to see him stay and retire a Celtic, I think thats what he wants his legacy to show . I would give him a fair two year deal, maybe three if the money is sane. He is an asset , keeps himself in shape and is not injury prone. He's earned it.

No point in signing Allen if the team doesn't land a major top tier talent this summer (which can only really happen if Ray isn't signed).  So I say you renounce his rights, see what happens in free agency, and if he is still on the market and you still have cap room sign him up if the team is still going to be a realistic title team.  If the C's don't land real top tier talent and go into full bore rebuilding Allen is only going to be a detriment to that and needs to move on or retire.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Of the Big Three he is the oldest, and probably has the most left in the tank.   He's also a great mentor for what is likely to be a much younger team next season.

I'd give him a 2 year deal at a reasonable price.

Forget about age...this guy is still one of yhe best sgs in the league..who else are u gonna get better? Also having vets to mentor young players is always a good thing.

With no questions asked the Cs should sign Ray to a 2 year deal even give a 3rd year option. Ray is a true professional and a great example to the rest of his teammates. The Cs need to let him finish his career in green playing a reggie miller like role. The key is we need to get a young scoring sg who can take minutes away from ray much like steven jackson did for reggie.

3 year deal while convincing Ray that we need the money to score high level free agents. Being here means nothing if the team as a whole can't contend for a title.

I can only think of a handful fo players in the league who can run around those screens for an entire game and still have enough legs to shoot like a sniper. Acutally Reggie Miller retired and Richard Hamilton lost a step two years ago...so I cant think of any.

I wouldnt discount Ray's ability and effectiveness to make a point about his age in relation to a long term deal.

3 years at 10mil with production bonuses

IMO, its a fair contract that lets him ride out his career here like Reggie did with Indy while not over/underpaying him.
Yes other teams could toss him 1 year max deals but this keep him in the league and with the right team.
KG too should sign a similar deal and work their way into backup roles.
Can't stop, Rondo!

The decision to resign Ray should be made after all of the chips fall.

If we are able to sign DH then Ray becomes very valuable, even for 2 years. So does KG for a year or 2.

If we dont end up with any max contract guys, there is no point in signing Ray.

These guys will be pieces after this season, not centerpieces.
