Is Stiemsma the real deal? Have we found a Perk replacement?

I know it's only 5 games , but the kid is very impressive with his shot blocking ability and being able to control the paint. I think he will be starting a lot of games this year as JO is just never healthy. If he play 25 mins a game I think he could put up very similar stats to what Perk did in the starting 5.

8 ppg, 7rebs and 2+ blocks.

Seems to have a good 15 ft jumper

He might not be able to guard Dwight Howard and Bynum, but other than that he matches up pretty well physically with most centers in the league .

and he blocks shots!!!!

He's a solid 12th man, a good body to have as depth because he can block shots, other than that I wouldn't count on finding the next Perk or the next Ben Wallace here.

when he gets a pass or a rebound, does he gather, scowl, gather some more, then go up for his shot?

imo, he's better than Perk. He's quicker, a better shot blocker, more mobile, has a better shot, doesn't get called for as many moving picks, and doesn't bring the ball back down and lose it after every offensive board.

that's actually a really good call, reminds me of Andersen the way he blocks shot

He has more potential than Perk. One of the reasons we traded him was because of he is an offensive liability. Stiemsma isn't. He's a good at the the free throw line, has a nice jumper, and can make the easy layups.


Plus, he's a very good shot blocker. His defensive technique is a lot better than Perk. To me, Perk is more of a hacker. Not saying that's bad(hackers are very useful), but Stiemsma meets the ball at the peak more often than Perk does.

Seriously though, lets not get carried away yet folks.

Even Erden had a few decent games at the beginning to elict some excitement.  Granted Steimsma blocks shots extremely well.  Lets see if it lasts, once players figure him out.

I think good players will try to abuse him and see if they can shake his confidence.  If he gets past that, we'll know if he can really help.

Semih had size and decent mobility defensively and finishing ability inside offensively.  Stiemsma looks to have the same assets (and the same weaknesses in post D and rebounding), plus good shot-blocking and an intriguing mid-range jumper.

Perk was heavy and wide and took up space what I call the BIG BABY effect ...using size to protect the rim.

Streamer actually plays basketball , can jump , run and shoot

He needs alot of practice and needs to muscle up and bulk up a bit.

Nothing like being thrown in the line of fire to learn , but some offical workouts with the team would help all the new guys.

Let's hold onto the praise for Greg.  He's doing well, but let's remember Jermaine had a 20-7 game the other night.  Point being, anybody can look like a star for half a game or a whole game.

That said, he's certainly been a pleasant surprise so far.

He may not be able to guard those two YET.

Of course Stiem is raw, but as he continues to develop he could very well be able to hold his own against the best.

Very pleased with him so far.
