Anybody notice Atlanta has yet to lose a game so far?

I really doubt they are ready to give on JJ so quickly, despite his horrible contract.

And no way is it a good idea to take on JJ's contract, therefore limiting our cap flexibility going forward, without getting more out of the deal.  Smith would almost have to be included, and I'm not really sure Ainge is that high on him.

The thing that people who make suggestions like this never seem to fully appreciate is that Ray is an off the ball wing player with value.

If you did this move (based on "talent" i could understand being interested int he switch) you would have to shift PP to the off the ball wing.

Having better shot creators/1v1 players doesnt help a team mesh and doesnt help in building a varied offense and any team with a good D would shut us down.

It is what the knicks will live through the next couple of years with melo and amare.

Sure if your 2 iso guys are wade and lebron you can make a run but PP and Joe are not going to carry an o and get the calls that wade and james get.

Ray's skill set though less varied than Joe's brings more value for less money in my opinion. There just are not that many players who can do what ray does even at 35

No from both sides perspective. But there are no guarantees in the NBA so if both teams are floundering in February, you could see blockbusters like this one develop.

If we really wanted Johnson, we could probably get him for a couple late draft picks and a massive trade exception in the offseason.  Give Atlanta the flexibility to replace him with a couple players in a later trade.

No interest in trading for Joe, though.  Makes way too much, he's on the wrong side of 30.  A last resort type of deal.

Why does his name keep coming up in trade suggestions?

Do Hawks fans hate him? Is the team losing a lot of money?

The fact that the Hawks keep signing the guy to overpriced contracts must mean he is liked.

It's definantly something to think about. As good as a shooter as Ray is, Johnson is much better at creating his own shot and a better defender. Johnson is in a lengthy contract with $100 mill left on it. He's only 30 years old which makes him a better option than Ray, who is 36, moving forwards.

Johnson has taken a step back from being a superstar after signing his big contract in the summer of 2010 but being in Boston could be the right situation to motivate Joe Johnson who hasnt played with a point guard of Rondo's caliber since 2005 when Nash was dishing him the rock. Obviously the Celtics would have to get a center to take over Jermaines spot (Maybe Pryzbilla?) and they would be back in the thick of things.

Joe Johnson is a good fit for Boston. But i don't know if Danny Ainge would be looking to pay Johnson 100 million over the next 5 years.

I think Johnson is a good player not top five but a solid player who plays on both ends of the floor.  His contract is a huge albatross.   I don't view him as a franchise cornerstone which  is what he is paid like but rather a nice complimentary player.

Allen has in many ways been our most solid veteran thus far.

I think Joe Johnson would be a horrible use of cap space unless he is making less than $10 million/year.  He is exactly the sort of player who gets overvalued by badly-run teams that end up in salary cap hell without being close to sniffing a title.  If Jeff Green did not have a heart problem, I would rather give Green $10 million/year through 2015-2016 than take on Johnson's contract.  Heck, I might even prefer giving Green that deal starting next season post-surgery if he can pass a physical.
