At any point in the preceeding 8 pages has there been a definition put forth for 'done'? If so, I apologize for not reading through the thread. But if not, how about developing some objective criteria.
I'll start by suggesting that 'done' is probably an exageration from the start. I am guessing the OP means that he isn't what he once was. And I would guess that just about everyone would agree with that assessment.
So, in order for 'done' to be debatable, let's assume it means that he can no longer do any semblance of what he once did to contribute to a highly competitive team. Given that consistent high level performance would be essential for KG to be considered 'undone', I'd like to suggest the following offensive standards as criteria:
1. He averages at least 13, 7 and 3 in 30 MPG.
2. He performs poorly (< 8/4/1 or comparative) in fewer than 25% of games in which he plays >25 minutes.
3. He plays 25+ minutes in <90% of games.
Defensive standards: I need help quantifying.
Offensively, KG thus far:
Game:
1. 15/8/3
2. 12/5/2
3. 8/7/4
4. 8/3/3
5. 24/9/3
Season averages so far: 13.4/ 6.4/ 3
To this point in the season, he is just about right at the cut-off for 'done' based on the offensive criteria I proposed. I'd say he has had 1 poor and 1 borderline offensive game (statistically).
Of course, the 'eye test' may tell a different story and should be part of the assessment, but just as stats are often insufficient to draw definitive conclusions, so goes the eye test.
Those numbers are very solid for the fourth best guy on your team. Also what KG brings to the table goes beyond numbers. To limit and judge his worth based on points and rebounds is absurd.
I agree to limit and judge his worth based on pts/rebounds is absurd. My point was that it is equally absurd to judge his worth solely based on some subjective notion of 'is he done?'. Both subjective and objective measures are needed for a thorough assessment of his contributions. Quantifying his defensive contributions is needed too.
Good post NG. I think the most disappointing / troubling thing with KG is the lack of rebounds. I'd be fine with him only scoring 12-13 ppg in 25+ minutes, but grabbing so few rebounds is more telling than anything else, in my opinion. Last year, KG was grabbing double digit rebounds and looking rejuvenated.
We know that KG was a dominant rebounder in his youth. When he's not grabbing rebounds, I think it's safe to interpret that as a sign that KG is not able to be close to the player he once was.
