Is it too late to use the Amnesty Clause on JO

There were talks about using the amnesty clause on J Oneil before the season started and was wondering if they still can.  Pryzbilla and another center are out there waiting and they could use that money to sign one or both.

We already have $9mil from Green's voided contract, right?  As bad as JO has been, I'd still try to keep him as a backup since we are so short on centers.  But I'm jealous of the teams with centers who don't mind contact and rebound and finish.

using the amnesty doesn't do the team any good in terms of cap space. Much the same way we didn't gain cap space when we voided jeff greens contract. The best we can do with JO contract is trade it, as it is an expiring deal and holds some value.

We do, if you imply that our payroll is $9 million less. The voided contract does not create an exception (and I also believe there's some sort of a cap hold, since we haven't renounced Green's rights).

Likewise, just waiving O'Neal will not have any implications about our ability to sign anyone for more than the veteran minimum, since we'll still be over the cap.

It is not too late but this is the wrong answer since he is an expiring contract. Those are like gold in a midseason trade market. We can use his expiring contract in a potential franchise changing trade. BTW we can use Ray Allen and KG expiring contracts if Paul Pierce keeps having injury troubles and the Celtics continue to struggle to terminate the PGA Era of 2008 to 2011.

I am not advocating this approach even after last night's Poor Energy court appearence in New Orleans. I refuse to devolve into Gang Green messageboard style of debunking the local team (In the J E T S S U C K S U C K S U C K sense).

Waiving him will do no good. Trading him because he's an expiring might be the best bet to get rid of him if it's needed.

Do we still have the Clips 1st rounder? If so they can package JO's expiring and that for somebody, anybody.

After what he looked like in the NO game, im flat out giving up after days of defending him. He really looks like done or just a backup.

Trade him to Washington for Blatche. The guy's a headcase over there and looks to be like is close to be out of town. WIth the veterans around him though, that head could be straighten up. He's a better bet than JO is right now.

Do you not watch the games?  Since the end of last year he's been getting the most phantom fouls.  How is he supposed to be aggressive on D or get into any kind of rhythm when he always has to sit down?

Regardless he still provides average to above average defense.  That's all he needs to do, not score on offense.  If he wants to take open 12 footers, that's fine because he'll start making them.  How the heck is he worth amnestying?

Exactly.  Terrible, terrible calls.

I have full faith that he'll be fine.  He looked great last year when he played on defense, and he wasn't healthy. 

He is now.  He'll come around. 

And amnestying wouldn't work anyway, as others have pointed out.
