I think most people expected this was the last year for KG and Ray here and the we would be a bad team next year if we couldn't get someone like Howard.
I think fans were split on this year, with a reasonable amount having low expectations and others getting upset when ESPN.com rankings had us 5th in the East.
So long as we make the playoffs one last time, even as a 7 seed, I'm fine. I just want one last chance to leave it all out there before rooting for the new guys during the rebuilding phase.
Either that or move Ray and don't worry about this year.
I think it's seriously up in the air whether the group we see out there right now is going to finish the season.
If injuries really bog them down and they are hovering around .500 going into February and early March, I really think Danny could move Ray, KG, Rondo . . . even Pierce. I don't think anybody would be off the table.
Yeah, I think they've got about thirty games to show that they might be able to make some noise in the playoffs. If not, I could see Ray Allen being moved; I've got to think that Chicago would still love to have him.
I don't see KG being traded because I don't see how any of the contending teams would be able to put together a deal, given the size of his contract. I do think there's a real good chance he hangs it up after this season.
Pierce, I don't think goes anywhere. He's the one guy that I think ownership wants to make [dang] sure retires as a Celtic. I could *maybe* see him asking for a trade at some point (go play with Chris Paul on the Clips?), but if he leaves it'll be an amicable parting. Management wants Paul Pierce to remain a face of the franchise long past his retirement - they want him to be a guy who comes to games in fifteen or twenty years and gets a standing ovation.
The big question is, as always... Rondo.
EDIT: I should say, I don't want it to seem like I'm throwing the towel in on the season. I think they have it in them to make one last run, but it's going to require a lot of good luck. It's going to require guys getting (and staying) healthy. It's going to require JO getting back at least to his level of two seasons ago. It's going to require some of the young guys making contributions. The potential is there for this team, but it's going to require a whole lot of good things to fall into place.
