Six points and two rebounds in 17 minutes a game. Wow, what a dominator.

Oh, and Wilcox is out with a bum shoulder.

Injuries and age have just finished us before we got started.

When we lost Green I knew we were toast, they had talked about going small all off-season and then poof. Over.

while the original post is a total overreaction to two games, I will agree to the extent that JO has looked so far like a player who ought to play at most 10 minutes a game.

A little hyperbole can be fun. Cause it sure will not be fun watching O'Neal play this year.

He and our season is finished. Time to rebuild.

his rotations are so slow i dont even think he cares. but yeah we dont have any athletic perimeter players to slow the heat down so old man JO can rotate and make a play.

but this probably wont make a difference JO i think is done

Only hope is for him to retire..  We need the Chief to come out of retirement I think he would do a better job and move faster than Oneal has...  Really sad to watch he is just a shell of his former self.  Looks slower than last year if that is at all possible.  Also, his screens are pitiful, he doesn't even make contact with guys..

Seems like a nice guy but, enough is enough.  We need someone with a presence.  Bass has been fun to watch because he brings energy and athleticism we just haven't seen before..

I think JO looked really bad against Miami because he is just a terrible matchup against them : he is so slow and they are so quick that, well, he looks totally... cooked.

With that said, he did look good about a team not as fast as the Heat, like the Knicks, so I will hold my judgment until I see how he does against "normal"-paced teams.

2 early BS calls (yes, I'm still not over it) put JO on the bench and allowed the Heat to do their thing. Even against the Heat JO would be effective I think if we came out of the gates controlling the tempo, which unfortunately we did not. In fact we came out sloppy as ever.

agreed on that. i think Miami is just too fast paced for JO. but he was decent during the Knicks game.

i kept on saying this  and i will keep on. JO must be included as an option in the offense.

they are playing him like Perk, which all it does is sets screens and play defense in the other end. he needs to do a better job defensively, im not letting him off the hook on that. but give the man some low post touches and pick and pop plays. he's a decent mid range shooter and has post moves. does he still have his explosiveness in the post, of course not. but one or two successful post plays with him would build his confidence and will make him play a little more better.

give the man the ball in the low post once in a while and let him work. right now he looks to be done, but i'm holding my judgement until such time i see him be part of the offense other than "just the guy who sets screens." incorporate him in the offense. the dude knows how to play down low, he's not Perk. let him do what he can. if he stinks up the joint then that's it. but cmon JO you gotta do better than that on the defense.

The small lineup was supposed to be Green and KG up top but I kind of like the Bass/KG pairing.

i think these two games have been some of the worst matchups for JO. you have a Dantoni offense and then the Heat who run all over the place

JO will be fine against slower pace teams

and when the C's do face the Knicks or especially the Heat in the playoffs, JO will barely play

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
typical doomsday post after we play two of the toughest teams in the NBA- without our captain.

Wouldn't surprise me to see Wilcox start against the Heat next time if he's healthy.
He's faster and can get back to clog the paint much faster.
JO will work fine in a zone though, and I suspect we will run this a lot more vs Miami next time.

im not surprised that this thread was started by the OP. his flooding of trolling threads after the jeff green announcement speaks volume. same guy said green=reggie lewis, totally disrespecting the lewis family and legacy.

that said.....JO is a bum.  i have been saying that since we signed him. i cringe at the thought of him being our starting center and having to rely on him for anything.

I'm not giving up on JO yet, but when I think that we almost had David West (whose knee has looked absolutely fine so far) for him...thats still disappointing.  Wish some other team was dumb enough to take on JO lol

His stats haven't been the best but he's been good clogging the paint.
He's also been good taking charges- I think he has 4 already.

Against the Heat tonight he took a charge from Chalmers and then hustled to get a loose ball against Haslem and got the foul called against Haslem after altering his shot.

He still has the motivation. Just needs to get his legs.
Much the same for KG.

the three best teams in the East are the Knicks, Bulls, and Heat, all of which are fast paced teams.  Even the Hawks, Sixers, and Pacers move a lot more than the Celtics.

The Celtics are an old slow team.  The years of title contention are over.
