Second thought SG's are easier to come. Consider that we also picked up Moore and Pietrus. Jjuan is an interesting prospect; but still not clear what his role will be.

SG that can score a lot easier to come by than talented bigs. If Jajuan pans out it will be a bigger benefit than the Celtics.

JJJ is 6ft 10, has a great jumper with range, and was a very good defensive player in college. He also doesn't look totally lost on the basketball court like Bradley and Gerald Green did. He's skinny, but we can fix that. Perk was a thin young guy who didn't see the court his first year, and the celtics put him on a training program and turned him into the beast he is today. JJJ has the tools to be even better.

Brooks played in NJ where their best player was Deron Williams and the rest of the team are scrubs...

Johnson could potentially do well on that team too

Its way to early to make this prediction but seriously, it would be nice to have a 2 guard who could come in and create their own shot and score points.  I know Brooks gets up a lot of shots to score but I think our bench could use someone like that. I was never sold on JaJuan but let's see what pans out over the season(s) rather than 3 games.

Marshon Brooks = Nick Young

JuJuan Johnson = ?

hard to say yet if JJJ is even an NBA rotation player, so at least for now you have to say that Brooks is better.  But I think it's fair to wonder if Brooks would be getting any playing time for the Celtics, either.

Being from Providence, I know a lot about Brooks.  The guy is going to be a good scorer in the NBA for a long time.  He's got a ton of athleticism, good size, great work ethic, and has shown in college that he can put up big numbers effectively. He tested as one of the best athletes in the entire draft at the combine, (7'1" wingspan, 38.5 vertical, Top 10 in every category but bench press).

As a Providence Friar, Brooks went from a 3 ppg freshman to a 24.6 ppg scorer to lead the Big East, albeit on a poor team. He showed steady improvement each season. He has a reputation as a guy who works very hard on his game and his fitness.

I saw him two weeks before the strike ended and Brooks looked to be a legit 6'6" (I didn't think he was as tall as his listed 6'5" and had him stand next to me and he's at least three inches taller).

Brooks is an NBA ready scorer and should get ample opportunity in NJ, which is one of the sorriest teams in the league.  Considering that Avery Johnson started someone named Sundiata Gaines as SG tonight, (8 points on 9 shots), it shouldn't  be long before Brooks is starting alongside the clinically depressed Deron Williams.

As a Brooks fan, I was bitterly disappointed when Ainge shipped him to NJ for JJJ and a future second round pick.  I really liked the idea of Brooks as an understudy to Ray Allen for a season or two before starting at SG.

Brooks and JJJ are both very athletic, productive 4 year college players, and DA chose to go for big over small. That's certainly defensible in a league where height combined with skill is more of a commodity than scoring SGs.  I just see Brooks as a prototypical SG and more of a sure thing than the beanpole-built JJJ.

Marshon Brooks = Nick Young

That's a bit of a stretch there, Brooks hasn't shown nearly enough to be considered equal to Nick Young. Does Steimsma = Bill Russell too?

I don't like the oh he plays on the Nets argument.  The nets have more wins then the Celtics at this point.  I understand the C's are better then the nets, but until the record says that, we can't use that argument.
do it

come on now, it's not THAT big of a leap.

i'm not saying marshon brooks is definitely as good as nick young, but that's probably his ceiling; that's the sort of player we're talking about here.

I think it's more that he plays behind KG ad Bass whereas the Nets have no shooting guards argument .

Ok, that I can see. Fair enough.

Sorry, have to jump in here, Perk was heinously obese when he came into the league. About 345. They trimmed him down and toned him, but did not bulk him.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

I was trying to come up with a nice way to make the point, and you ended up beating me to the post...

But yeah, in Perk, Danny basically drafted a fat kid out of high school, and that's exaxtly what he looked like.  He was called a project at the time, and we surely had room on the roster.

Brooks also can't play defense, can't play off the ball, can't pass the ball, has horrible decision making, can't dribble, and has horrible balance.

I am not saying he CAN'T play in the NBA, but just looking at his point totals without looking at the rest of his game is folly.
