This makes me furious.
Remember Bynum's cruel and dangerous hit on Barea last playoffs?  I think the NBA needs a reminder, shortened season or not, this is ridiculous.
The reasoning makes me furious, why should his suspension be reduced due to a shortened season??  Maybe he can serve the rest of the suspension next season because it will be a full 82 game season...

I agree, if anything it should have been extended instead of reduced.

I don't get it.... but I'll give it to them for some karma for the CP3 thing.

Bynum missing 5 games guarenteed the Lakers 5 losses IMO (They are just way too thin) and now they possibly have 1 more win.

They are still in big trouble, so I'm happy.  Bill Simmons predicts this team for like .500 and I don't think he's crazy.  As the roster currently stands, Josh McRoberts is the 4th best player on the team. If Bynum goes down (and from his history, more when than if) it could be huge since the schedule is condensed and they could lose a lot of games.

If they trade for Dwight, they will still be super thin but much better.  I don't think he's going to LA, and I wouldn't be surprised if they pull of a trade that makes them deeper and better in the regular season, but ultimately not a threat in the playoffs.

I don't think they have will be good.

Sounds fair.

Keeping the suspension proportionate to the shortened schedule. A fifth of the season is gone, a fifth of the suspension should go too.

Since when is a suspension a proportion?  NBA did not say Bynum would be suspened 5/82 games, they said 5.  Seems like he is rewarded for the lockout.

I guess the league is kissing up to the Lakers. They probably dropped the number for basketball reasons.

Why wouldn't it be?

In a full season, Bynum would miss 6.1% of the available games. In the shortened season, he'd miss 7.5%. Both the individual and his team would end up being punished extra because of the lockout. That would be unfair.

Seems only right to me that they would cut it down to four games.

They must be kissing up to the Pistons too since they did the same thing to Villanueva.

I would guess that in a shortened season, a suspension to a player is more costly salary wise no? So I guess that's part of the reasoning. And also Villanueva's was reduced too.

Even if it was a 5 game season i would expect the 5 game suspension to stand.

I wonder if its because Stern feels bad about the whole CP3 thing.

You don't get the best point guard in the league, BUT you get Bynum back one game earlier!!!

Doesn't matter. He'll just get injured his first game back. Per usual.

As the the suspension was decided to be, this reduction is well in line with the idea that some of the season is lost, thus a reduction is warented.

I just dont think the original suspension ruling was fair in it self, what bynum did was extremly dangerous and should have been punished more harshly than it was.

I think that all the salaries are going to be 66/82 of their value.
