Donny Marshall: Celts still considering trading Rondo (merged)

Which power forward?  There aren't that many in the league that are more valuable than Rondo, and most of them are not being traded.

 I'd rather have Rondo with D12, but I don't know how Howard really thinks. He wanted to play with CP3 and they are a similar point guard. Same with DWill. Howard seems so far just wants to have what Lebron and Melo has. Beleive me Rondo is the best point to have on a team full of people who want to score.

 I just can't think of an other point that would work in a trade thats best for the future. Yeah Nash may help in this season, but not the next 5.

I really think if Rondo can average 15 points and 12 assist, he goes no wheres. You can't ask more from him than that.

I think Oklahoma might eventually realize that a player that takes the ball outta Durant's hand instead of having a player that can get him the easiest shots possible is for the best for them.

Rondo has a pretty friendly contract for a pure PG that can move the ball like he does, Westbrook is probably gonna command a max deal after this year. The money that they save by acquiring Rondo as their PG they can use to focus on resigning Harden as their pure SG and getting some more bench depth.

I would do it as the Celtics, Westbrook is a decent PG with spreading the floor, but it also gives them the scoring on the perimeter that they need and they get the size they need with Nazr. I think for the future, players might want to come here to play with an up and coming elite scoring PG.

Disagree! Westbrook is a far more talented point guard who can actually score the ball. Plus, I definitely think he's worthy of max dollars and someone who I'd rather build a team around, over Rondo.

O'Neal would almost have to be included to make the numbers work. The C's would be in better win now shape with Jermaine and Lopez instead of Gortat. And for the future: Lopez is 5 years younger, still developing and getting paid 1/3 as much with a team friendly contract. The value is in Lopez.

I'd rather have a C who can play more than 15 mpg, stay healthy, and actually rebounds.

Lopez regressed badly, I don't think he's better than a backup C. Gortat has far more value because he's a legitimate starting C, 1/3 the price for a backup C isn't a bargain.

Lopez still has the potential to be a solid starter in this league. He's only 23, can develop a niche in the offense. Either way, I would be for both trades. I would just prefer not to lose JO for this season.

with some of these trade ideas, I am wondering why so many are in such a a hurry (or panic) that they are actually making the team worse with their trade ideas. I understand being upset that the cp3/west deal fell through but some of these ideas are...just wow.

It's not hard to understand.  Consider the worst GMs in the NBA.  Now, consider that those GMs are probably better at assessing basketball talent and having the self-control to avoid making panicked decisions than the least capable posters on this board.  I would be shocked if this or any other basketball-related forum didn't have posters who made me think "David Kahn is smarter than you".

  He's not a far more talented point guard that Rondo. Aside from scoring, he's not anywhere close to the pg Rondo is. Build a team around him and you won't go far unless he matures quite a bit as a player. He puts up big stats but doesn't help the team that much.

I'll say this. I agree with those who find it strange that Donny Marshall would be fed this info and no one else. But for what it's worth, he is a part of the local station that covers the Celtics, which is of course CSNNE. Even if you wanna say he's not Sherrod, it's not like he's on ESPN or something.

But at the end of the day, considering it's more or less clear  that Danny was trying to go for broke on CP3, I don't think the idea that the Celtics are still shopping around Rondo should be news, let alone farfetched simply because Donny said it. I suppose the real question is, who is Danny considering getting in exchange for Rondo.
