Trade Idea: KG to the Bulls

A few rebuilding assumptions before I throw out the trade idea:

• DA decides that without a major FA addition they will not win another ring with this group
• The Cs will likely not be in the running to sign Dwight Howard who will probably be traded in season to a team that will resign him (i.e. Nets)
• With Green out for the season the best trade chips the Cs have are KG and Ray Allen's expiring deals.
• KG would never report anywhere that isn't a contender. This means the trade partners are teams like Dallas, the Fakers (not happending), Miami (not happening), and the Bulls

...in Chicago you have the Thibs connection and Derrick Rose. 

Chicago trades:
Noah + Taj Gibson + cap filler (like Brewer or Korver, whoever) + #1 pick

Boston trades:
KG

Chicago moves Boozer to the Odom 6th man role, and starts:

Asik
KG
Deng
Hamilton
Rose
w/ Boozer off the bench. They can go 'small' with 4th quarter lineups of KG and Boozer.  That team becomes the favorite for a championship and can absolutely beat Miami in a 7 game series.

The Cs get a young starting center in Noah, a efficient young PF in Gibson and a pick.  It's not a championship contender by any stretch of the imagination but it may be better than a ton of cap space and no immediate free agent takers next off-season.

Chicago says no, they need Rose to mature his game and another scorer. They don't need a elite defensive PF and help defender.

I don't think Chicago would trade Noah straight up for KG. 

However, if the C's do decide to blow it up, I do think Chicago would be a prime candidate for KG.  But the deal would have to be based around Boozer.

What did them in last year was offensive woes.  They're already well off defensively.

Agreed -- no way does Chicago give up a young big man as talented as Joakim Noah for a veteran on his way out of the league.

And the only way they deal Boozer is if they hate that contract which would be a mistake given their inability to replace him down the line (lack of cap flexibility + lack of trade assets). Need a younger player than KG for that to make sense for Chicago.

I don't see Chicago as a likely destination. The pieces don't line up (trade wise).

I was looking at rosters trying to figure out what team would be interested in KG if we tried to shop him for some young pieces. I didn't have much luck, I found several teams that could use him but no teams with young talent that we would want.

Dallas is the team that I see as the best trade destination for KG.

They want to keep 2012 flexibility open. They have a definite need for KG. They have expiring contracts to give in exchange for KG so no harm to the C's long term cap situation. I agree.  Right now, Chicago has a long window, and there's no reason for them to shorten it by dealing two young pieces in Noah and Gibson. 

As for a trade centered around Boozer-for-KG, I don't know if it works for either side.  For us, we'd be taking on a 4 year, $60 million contract for a 30 year old player.  For Chicago, they'd once again be shortening their window, and they'd be hurting their offense.  As much as I like KG, he's not the offensive scorer -- especially down low -- that Boozer is.  Right now, Chicago needs consistent offense more than they do defense.

Hmmm... Their significant expirings are Kidd, Terry and Odom (only partially guaranteed for 2012/2013).  I'm not sure if they'd offer up two of those players and prospects for KG.  Might leave their backcourt too thin.   

I think Portland would be the most likely destination for KG if we were to trade him.  Camby/Oden + a prospect.

I think Chicago is much more likely to want Ray Allen then Kevin Garnett all things considered.  Korver, Asik, and filler for Allen works, and may be something that Chicago would consider (they like Asik but he is a bench player).

Isn't Vince Carter still on the Mavs?  Or was he cut.  If he is in play his contract is expiring and is like 18.3 million.  That would seemingly be all the filler necessary.  Carter, Beaubois, Wright, and Mahinmi for Garnett.  Gives the Celtics three young cheap players to look at without long term commitment.
