Hoping Jeff Green makes a full recovery - hard news to be sure; but we forget what Danny achieved this off season - the glass is actually pretty full even if the immediate future is a little cloudy. I still think we can make a run at it.

We lost:
Kristic, West, Murphy Wafer and Davis, (Harangody and Erden)

We got:
A revitalized Marquis, Bass, Wilcox, Dooling, Moore, JJJ and Stiemsma (Stiemsma = Semih).

We got athleticism, youth and rebounding and I would argue more scoring.

If we can keep some of these guys around it could be a nice young core to build on thru free agency and two first rounders. If/when Jeff Green comes back we could be in pretty good shape going forward. I think our speed can make up for our lack of size and the blond kid can always give us size off the bench

He tried to swing for the fences and struck out.

He added good pieces for the resources he had available.

He and the Celtics are victims of bad luck with Greens medical issue.

I, for one, really like the moves made this off-season. We upgraded our bench by almost an order of magnitude, with our without David West. Kevin Garnett and Jermaine O'Neal are much healthier going into this season than going into last. While Rondo probably won't play quite as well as he did with Shaq, now that we have a lot of big athletic bodies he is going to do well. And he isn't injured anymore, and all the lingering effects of the Perk trade will be gone. Ray Allen is a freak of nature. Doc Rivers has talked about changes to the system, better minute management, and letting Pierce do his thing down the stretch.

Seriously, I hate how people forget how we played for 70% of last year. Yes, it sucks that down the stretch we fell a part. Get over it. We are still a great team.

If we can get an upgrade over Pavlovic I think we should be OK.
If Pietrus is healthy (big if?) he may be available. Steveson would also be a nice upgrade.

I'm right there with ya.  I love the team as constructed, and love the open options for the years that await.  Celtics are a darn good team and can beat anybody in a 7 game playoff series.  ANYBODY.

The bench is far superior to last year.  Losing Green stings, but you can't do anything about it.  Next man up.  That's Marquis Daniels and I think he's ready for the challenge.  Dooling is a perfect fit & a huge upgrade for that backup PG spot.  Bass is a straight steal of a move, & upgrades BBD's spot.  Wilcox is a veteran who can give you valuable minutes + fouls.  He's no slouch & people are kidding themselves if their comparing him to years past (Detroit).  He can play.

Ultimately, if you're wanting a championship, it will come down to the play of the big 4.  If they play their games, this team won't be stopped. Can't be stopped.  Bottom line.  When they share the ball & play to the all star ability they all have, it's over.  Nobody beats them.

I thought the Bass trade was a significant upgrade.  The Wilcox signing was very solid, a good fit at an acceptable price.  The Green signing to was an excellent move; a fluke that it didn't work out.

Didn't mind the Dooling for the trade exception trade.  He'd have made a better 4th/5th guard than Arroyo, Bradley or Moore.

Very disappointed we didn't resign Delonte.  Perhaps he caused problems last season, but on a talent/production basis, Delonte-to-Dooling is a downgrade.

Pavlovic looked done to me last year: looked too slow.  But I'll defer to the judgment of Doc and his team on that one. Stiemsma and Gilbert Brown strike me as about as useful as Semih and Gody, so I won't complain there.

All in all, one excellent move, one solid move, one disappointing move and a lot of whatevers.

That's how I see things, too.  Danny did everything reasonably possible to upgrade the team.

If we'd never attempted to acquire CP3 or David West, I think a lot more fans would be satisfied with the job Danny has done this off-season.

To play devils advocate, I would leave out marquis since he isnt a new player.  I also dont think steismwhatever compares to Erden.  Erden had a lot of moves, good size, and athleticism. Steiwhatever is jus long.  Also, krystic is the most skilled big man on the list. We got more athletic replacements, but noone near his skill level.

The big difference to me, is that we got guys who are healthy, and flexible in the positions they play.  For what we had to work with, I think thats enough.

Co-sign. Expectations were taken to another level when the West trade seemed like a done deal. That being said expectations are at the lowest they have been in a while with Green out. Will be interesting to see what the mood of the board will be in a month if we get off to the annual 24-7 start.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
He did well with what he had, but this team is still too big three centric. Hope Rondo finally realizes we need offense from him to and JO can remain fairly healthy. Our bench I'm still on the fence about, but I liked what I saw from the new vets and marquis. Moore looks ready to contribute and Bradley will find his use. The teams health will determine how good our bench looks.

I think Danny has done well, considering the constraints he was under.

I think as the season progresses, this will become evident.

Danny's been a huge disappointment sense acquiring the Big Three

Pretty much have to agree. The only thing he's really done right in that span is keep the big three together, resigning, Rondo and not adding any bad contracts. His best move since acquring the big three is probably trading Baby for Bass. He could've done better, but he could've done a lot worse.

Yes, it's amazing how no cap space, draft picks in the high 20s and few if any tradeable assets can affect a GM's performance.

Yeah, he really has struck out by getting Pierce to sign back up for duty.  What a disappointment.  4 starting all stars from the team last year , WTH ?  A real gm could get 6 easy.  What a crock.

Why does he put out a team that can win the championship year in and year out ?  He should put out a team that is guaranteed the championship.  You know, like the Heat.
