i almost thought he meant Delonte West, then i finished reading the title lol

but yeh, I'm confused too, didnt west want to play for a contender?

Doesn't he? I mean.. didn't his agent say: He's happy to be with the Pacers, and try to win a championship. lol
Doc's gonna tell you what you need to hear, not what you want to hear.

as others have pointed out, it's entirely possible that West just didn't see the Celtics as a contender.  after all, they were second round and done last season, and they are set up to be in rebuilding mode after this season.

the pacers could pitch a young core with a bright future.  the celtics could pitch one last hurrah with a group of grizzled vets who may or may not make it through the year in decent health.

I kept reading that after the other deals fell through, there was just nowhere to dump JO's contract, and NO didn't want it. Since that was the only way the C's could get him, if no team would absorb JO's contract, no way we could get him.

Yeah but West only signed a 2 year deal there. I think he wants flexibility for another contract. Boston needed to sign a 3 year deal. I thin IND is more than 2 years away from contending.

West had a choice. Make the playoffs with IND as a 6-8 seed and possible lead the team inscoring.

Or 2 become 2nd or 3rd offensive option on a top 3 seed team.

I think he cose the option with more financial upside.

I also think it was a snap decision and he was probably getting antsy. I think IND might have been threatening to pull the offer in my opinion. Otherwise it would have been smart for West to see if JO would be moveable.

I assume this fell throught because of JO... if it didn't I am not sure what to make of it.

He says he wanted to contend so bad, and while I think the Pacers will be a good team (I predict 5th seed in the East this year) they are simply not on our level, and if you guys think they are you are being way too negative about our team.

It's too bad because a Rondo/Allen/Pierce/West/KG lineup would have had so much knock down shooting that it would have really made Rondo's life easier and helped to hide his poor jump shooting.

If he wanted to be on a good team that's fine, but he is not contending for a title in Indiana, sorry David.

It seems like it was reported that we couldn't get the sign and trade worked out which is why it didn't go through.

However, if it was because he chose to play in Indiana it makes sense. I believe all things being equal he would have chose Boston. All things were not equal we were offering him less money over more years. Signing a two year contract allows him to get paid if he outplays it (which he probably will). Signing a three year deal with us in which there is fourth year option and 3 of our four best players could be gone  after the first year, I think it makes sense. Had we been able to offer him the same salary Indiana did I think he would be playing here right now.

Suddenly outta nowhere, Delonte West sets a car on fire and screams, "Wildcard!"

I think that players don't have as much say as people suggest and when they do, I think people forget that people want minutes. They want to be starters, they don't want to come off the bench.

If we trade away JO to get David West you think he doesn't start and play major minutes?

He starts at PF and KG starts at C.  That was the plan.

My understanding of the whole ordeal was that NO was dragging their feet to help the Celtics due to the Lakers backlash. The deal was being held up until Paul was dealt, I can't blame West for becoming impatient and going to Indiana

I'm shocked myself that D West went to Pacers. They won't even be contenders for at least two seasons.

I get the sense that the S&T with New Orleans was starting to look tenuous, so West took the sure thing rather than risking being left out of the free agent market.  He's making more money per year and has a bigger role in Indiana, but if New Orleans could have pulled the trigger earlier, I think West would be in Boston.

If West didn't view the Celts (with him on the team) as a contender he must have an awfully low opinion on his ability to contribute to a team. And the Pacer's entire roster has a total of 1-2 career all-star appearances combined. If they have a bright future as contenders they're hiding it well.
