I don't think we need someone who's "the guy" off the bench.  We'd be better off figuring out a way for them to play well as a unit.

Losing Green's going to hurt, but I don't think it's as devastating as many fans seem to believe.

I'm not sure where the concern for a go-to scorer off the bench comes from, we've never had one in the KG era. You can't miss what you never had.

True, but now that the Big Three is older and goes more often on scoring droughts, and since Rondo isn't a true scorer, we now have a need that we didn't have a few years ago.

That's a good point, the big three have certainly had some ugly droughts lately. Green is a nice player, but unfortunately a healthy Green would not have been a go to scorer either imo. We need Rondo to develop a decent jumper and stop fearing the free throw line to solve this problem.

Yes, I agree that ultimately the real problem lies with Rondo, he has to become a 70% or (ideally) 80% FT shooter and he also has to be agressive all the time.

But Green could have helped a lot I think, even if he is not a go to scorer. We badly need some player who can really create his own shot. Marquis can post-up and score almost everytime but he won't do it all the time, Bass is a good shooter and can finish in the paint but he isn't really a go to scorer either, etc.

I agree, the only other guy who can create his own shot is Marquis, and Green sure would have helped in that sense. I'm hoping this new more agressive Marquis we have heard about is for real.

The bench does not have a go-to scorer.

Did you consider Jeff Green a go-to scorer?

Nope

Edit: Well, yes, when used as an undersized four. Not at the three.

Who is our 6th man?  Good question.  I don't know.  But the Celtics will probably be awarded a 3.5m exception for losing Green.  We can pick up someone decent for that amount of money.

I'd still like a sign & trade for Dalembert the most right now.  A solid C is more of a pressing concern for me than a backup SF.

read other posts explaining this around the forums -- it is extremely unlikely the Celtics will get any kind of exception for Green, because of the absolutely exorbitant cost to the Celtics of signing Green as well as a replacement player (and the fact that the league wouldn't give a team an exception for signing a player they know to be out for the season).
