Season over before it began

As I stated yesterday on this board, once we learn Jeff Green is Reggie Lewis, our season will be toast. Who is backing up Pierce? Oh, right, my grandma and some commie who should be a towel manager in the D-League. So for trading Perk we will get the 23rd pick in the 2012 draft. YEAH!!! So Excited!

stop with the green is lewis.  the analogy sucks and is ridiculous.  reggie is dead and green is alive. to compare the two is highly insensitive to reggie's legacy and his family.

I don't get this statement that I keep seeing: "Jeff Green is no better or not much better than Marquis Daniels." If that is the case, why didn't the Celtics try to trade Jeff Green. I am not a Green fan, but this statement makes no sense.

I'm thankful we didn't deal Green, only because who knows if another medical staff would have found this issue in time.

Jeff Green is not a starter, and he's not really much better than a healthy Marquis Daniels.

At 9 million for the season - which is roughly what Rondo makes - you're talking about a a guy expected to be a core member of your team.  Marquis they got for short money because of his recent injury problems.  He's probably one blow to the head away from his career being over.

Ainge and Doc were expecting Green to be a lot better than Daniels this season, otherwise he wouldn't have been re-signed for starter money.

Premature conclusion. Things just got bleaker and we need a whole lot more luck; however, if by some miracle everyone's healthy for the playoffs, I still think we have a shot.

Some of the posters on this blog totally baffle me. Some of the same people who were screeching about Jeff Green being a terrible player and mocking his (near) re-signing are the same people saying how screwed the team is without him. Hilarious.

So true.  Green would have been by far our best player off the bench.  Realistically the C's are not going to be able to replace his level of talent this year.

Talent aside this is a matter of human life which dwarves the game.   While non of us fan's are happy about this setback, it really is a positive thing in that a human being's life was in all probability saved by a through medical physical.

I feel bad for Jeff Green, as I really liked watching him come into his own at times last season. We basically have no sixth man now, so I think regardless of how high we covet the immortal Keyon Dooling and Marquis Daniels, I cringe while thinking of them being priorities in our second unit. It is going to be tough watching the Knicks hand us our asses on Xmas.

Although it is cute to keep the big three together, it is time for a change if we want to stay relevant, and not fall into another 20 year hole.

If the season is over, there is no reason to watch the games or post on this forum.  There are plenty of other sports and teams to follow.  There are plenty of other hobbies to take up, people to meet and places to go.  There is no reason, however, to start negative threads for a team whose season is supposedly over.

I don't expect anything more than a playoff appearance from this group. 

The David West thing was a blow.  The Jeff Green thing is worse.  It feels like a year we take a step backwards... one final victory lap for our 08 title, a hard-fought injury plagued 1st round elimination...  and then lottoville.

Doc Rivers told Danny Ainge to go out there and get the best talent available... and that he'd make it fit.

Danny Ainge goes out and lands us Keyon Dooling.

I don't blame Danny here...  but the drop off after our top 4 players is disastrous.

Enjoy our big 4 while it lasts.  We might only get a couple months of them.  If things look bad, I fully expect Danny to get some mediocre pieces for those large expiring contracts.

I don't agree with the Green - Daniels comparisons, but I also think you're using faulty logic to argue your point. The Celtics could have signed Green for less money.  They signed him for more money for three reasons: (1) it increased the probability he would accept the one year deal, rather than sign with another team for a multi-year deal that paid more overall, but less "per year"; (2) it improved the Cs' bargaining situation come March trade deadline ($9M * 125%); (3) if Green had a breakout year, and the Cs decided they wanted to keep him, it improved their chances of resigning him next offseason, or using him in a S&T.
