First -- a nice crowd. I would say 5-6K.

As for the game.

The Good
JJJ looked really good on offense but seemed to be easily pushed around on defense. He really does not look like a strong guy.

I really liked the energy of Wilcox.

I thought Dooling and Moore looked comfortable.

Bass also looked okay and hit several jumpers.

The Bad

While he hit the winning shot, I thought Avery Bradley was terrible. I would say the worst player on the court. I hope they are not counting on much from him this year.

JO looked okay, but the bad is he got hurt near the end. Looked like some sort of muscle pull or something. He put an ice bag or two inside his shirt, but it was hard to see where he was hurt.

Other than the above, everyone else did what they were supposed to do. Honestly, it was kind of anti-climatic with no Pierce, no KG and the Green medical situation up in the air.

I saw nothing tonight to change my mind that at best this season is a second round out.

Sweetney looked like a true baller. He's gonna compete for the starting center spot!

But seriously, the rooks and sties looked pretty good. So did Bass (had like 13/5) Wilcox (17/10) and Dooling looked good.

I was at the garden tonight. My impressions:

JJJ: can flat out shoot. He has some very nice offensive skills and can easily make the 20ft jumper, but he is very thin, as the OP said, and needs to work on his defense.

Etuan Moore: looks like a great pick. He had good ball control and decision making, and a nice jumper, looked very comfortable for a rookie

Chris Wilcox: 2nd best player of the night, he's definitely worth the MLE. I was surprised at how good his offense and rebounding are. He reminded me of a younger, smaller Sheed. He showed a lot of hustle as well.

Marquis Daniels: the best player of the night! It's great to see him back, but this looks like a new and improved Quisy. He was much more aggressive offensively yet always in control. Was very good at creating his own shots but also had fantastic passes, 2nd only to Rondo tonight in passing the ball.

Keyon Dooling: I was one of the people upset that we signed him over Delonte, but I will be the fist to say I was wrong. He's a true backup pg and a floor leader. Showed great poise and leadership, a very nice jumper with range, and excellent passing skills. Also a solid defender. Great addition to the 2nd unit.

Brandon Bass: about what I expected from him. Big improvement from Davis. Bass is much more under control, stays in the paint, and has a much easier time getting his shot off. He had some nice offensive rebounds too, following his own shot a few times, and can hit the outside J as well, although not as good a jump shooter as JJJ imo. His defense was ok, not great.

Sasha Pavlovic: He was there, but honestly, I don't even remember if he played at all.

Rondo: as with the rest of the starters, half speed night for Rondo, a bit sloppy as well, but the usual display of skills that we expect from him. He was working on his post-up game during shootaround, and he looked good shooting jumpers as well

Jermaine Oneal: He looks to be in great shape, and he moved very well until he got hurt late in teh game. It looked like he pulled an abdominal muscle during a missed dunk. He gave a very half-assed effort though, which is ok for a vet I guess.

Ray Allen: typical Ray, although even he was at the slower gear tonight.

Sweetney: why do they keep inviting this guy to training camp each year? He looks morbidly obese and thus can't get a shot off because he has zero lift.

Avery Bradley: next to Sweetney, he was the worst player on the floor tonight, despite the game winner. He was very dissapointing. Even though he's not playing pg any more, he still looks totally lost on the floor and has trouble dribbling and passing. His defense was ok, not great, and he really had no offensive moves of note.

Overall, I really like the new additions to our bench. The bench this year will be a much more mature and experienced group that will give us a much needed boost, even without Jeff Green. Daniels, Bass, Wilcox and Dooling are all great additions. Moore and JJJ look like great draft choices, and I think JJJ can develop into a very nice player in a couple of years. Bradley though may be out of the league soon.

I'm not sure why they went all out with the celtics dancers and a halftime show and pregame intros for a scrimmage, but I guess that's ok.

Paul Pierce had a great time interacting with fans on the sidelines before the game, and with the coaches and players during the game. He was limping though, and also looks like he gained weight during the lockout.

KG looked antsy sitting on the bench and not playing. I'm not sure why he sat out. He did have some fingers on his hand taped. I hope he's not hurt as well.

As, unfortunately, I'm not in the States right now I was only able to see a short clip on Youtube and Moore was really good!

I think Bradley just needs to learn to catch and shoot. He was able to  singlehandedly destroy the Knick's bench last season so he clearly has the weapons.

edit: Wilcox can jump!

Regarding Garnett, I thought I read that he hurt his thumb today in practice, and had X-Rays that were negative. Not sure if he is going to play Sunday. Also, Sasha did not play due to a hand injury.

Also, I really only focused on the new guys, but I should have mentioned Quisy. I thought he and Wilcox were the two best players on the floor tonight.

As for the overall bench, without Green, I would say equal to last year at best. And if the bench guys were healthy last year, this bench would be much weaker than it. They have no backup center, Bass is better than Baby, and I think Dooling will be a little better than Delonte. The key thing is, Dooling should play a lot more games than Delonte played last year.

I hope JO's injury is minor. Already we have Pierce, Rondo, Sasha and JO nursing what appears to be minor injuries to go along with the potentially serious Green medical condition. Not an auspicious way to start the season.

Wilcox, from what I saw, can handle the backup center spot. He's 6-10 with a good reach, and can rebound well. He's also very mobile and skilled offensively. He can create matchup problems with other centers. Bass is the backup PF. Having those two off the bench with a healthy Daniels and Dooling is huge imo. It's not the difference in talent of this year's bench to last year's. It's the difference in mentality, the maturity, leadership, and stability that this bench should have to lat year's bench is huge. Pierce also mentioned recently that last year's bench was selfish and immature, and it hurt them badly. This bench is just the opposite, it should be a big plus this year. If we add Pryzbillia then even better.

I went to the open practice too! It was a lot of fun to just watch the game and not be worried about the score, but instead watching each player's skillset.

Chris Wilcox is looking a LOT like Sheed nowadays.  The beard, the shoulder sun tattoo, and his reaction to being called for a foul.  It was really funny.  But he did put in a great hustle.  He seems very motivated by his role with this squad, which should be large, based on what I saw of Jermaine.

Expect more baseline jumpers from Jermaine this season, he seemed weak and injury prone.

JJJ really impressed me with his shooting finesse.  I would definitely like to see him on the floor some this year.  He seems like a high character guy who is happy to be on this team, but is extremely skinny.

E'twaun Moore was shooting very well, and even made a clutch three towards the end.  He seems comfortable with the team and his shooting was impressive.

Avery Bradley was frustrating, with 4 fouls in the first half.  His ballhandling skills are awful.

Bass was aggressive in the paint and was shooting his jumpers well.  His shot from the top of the key is deadly, it is truly a weapon and look for it all season long.

Michael Sweetney was, well, what would you expect.  He is in absolutely terrible shape.  And he needed to be hungrier for the ball (sorry, I couldn't resist).

Gilbert Brown and Greg Stiemsa did not do much impressing, with only one memorable stat each.  Gilbert Brown hit an open 3, and Stiemsa had a block on Sweetney.  But it was Sweetney.

Before the game started, I sat on the sidelines and was trying to talk to some of the players.

Mike Sweetney looked at me confused, it seemed he was unaware that anyone knew who he was.  He gave a wave though, which is always appreciated.  Keyon Dooling was LOVING the garden crowd, as I can imagine after his recent stints in New Jersey and Milwaukee.  Gave me a nice wave and exchanged a few words.

And I got a high five from Paul Pierce which was the highlight of the night ;)

I was also there tonight sitting on the floor not far from Ray's very pregnant wife...she looked like she was about to deliver which is more than I could say for Avery Bradley and J.O. They looked awful tonight but E'Twaun Moore,Bass and Wilcox were Awesome. JJJ's Jumper was sweet and Mike Sweetmeat had me a little on the nervous side....Cardiac Arrest !!!! I was very happy to go and My son Got to meet Double P tonight...needless to say he was in his  glory  ;D

ill write more latee, but I do want to say that the star of the night was Daniels.  He was a man among boys out there, and seemed to have great chemistry with Wilcox on the pick and rolls.  If he can stay healthy, he is going to be huge off the bench this year.

Also, Johnsons jumper is a thing of beauty, but he looked very tentative, and has a long way to go before he is comfortable in the system.

...oh yeah, and Bradley sucked.

From the little I saw Quis looked pretty good. The JO news isn't surprising. Anyone that thinks he is gonna hold up over this crunched season is fooling themselves.

Best news of the night.
There are two kinds of people: those who say to God, 'Thy will be done,' and those to whom God says, 'All right, then, have it your way.'

You don't have a soul. You are a Soul. You have a body.
