Rondo needs to be told to draw fouls continuously

he has the ability to do it with the speed he has

slash right to the hoop and just try to draw fouls, like allen iverson would do

the thing is getting the other team into foul trouble early in the game would be so helpful for us because it would mean we take take advantage of certain situations, force certain match ups, or allow players to rest [ie. kg if the other team's starting PF/C is in foul trouble]

He won't do that until he learns how to shoot free throws.  Remember last season he was afraid at times to drive to the hoop and get fouled because he was embarrassed at the free throw line.  Improving his free throw shooting is a must, imo, even more so than improving his jump shooting.

It astonishes me that with guys like KG, Truth, and RA around that Rondo hasn't improved his free throw shooting. If he could sink those free throws, teams would think twice about fouling him.

I don't think osmosis applies to free throw shooting.  Shaq played with a lot of great free throw shooters too.

Yup. I think how far the Celtics go this year depends mostly on this factor. Rondo draws fouls and a big rate by getting to the rim, the offense will be much better than it has the last couple years. Even if he only makes 50% of his free throws. If he makes 65%, we will have a very good offense.

Does it also astonish you that, playing with Rondo every day, Paul and Ray haven't improved their passing or ball handling more?

This analogy would work if passing or ball handling were notable weaknesses for PP or Ray, but they arent.

It works because those are skills that would improve their effectiveness as players and have a positive impact on the success of the team. It's less obvious than Rondo's ft shooting woes, but important nonetheless.

If Rondo could shoot FTs, he would be expected to handle the ball and make plays including making big FTs with the game on the line.

That's not Rondo's game.

Point taken lol. But if that's the case then maybe we are stuck with Rondo's atrocious 50 to 60 percent at the line.

If he did hit his free throws it would be his game, just like the way he gets big rebounds/steals/assists late in games.

1.7 FTA per game is not enough for an elite player in this league.

He's generally around twice that. Let's see how he does when he's healthier.

He is a much better player when he attacks the rim.
