Any chance Rivers has his son play a second year of college ball and has the Celtics draft him after they are horrible next year?

As a fan of this team, I'll never be able to get behind the model of getting bad on purpose to be in the running for the slim chance of picking up a future super star in the draft.

If it happens that after this year that the best team Danny can put out there wins about 45 games or so, makes the playoffs, and is fortunate to get past the first round, then, so be it.  I'd rather have that team than a team whose strategy is to lose as many games as they can for a very small chance at hitting a draft jackpot.

I seem to be among a minority on this blog who think that we are going to be in contention for an NBA title this year.  As far as I'm concerned, Danny owes it to this team and to us the fans to let these guys go out and give it another run.  The competition is strong, and we are not going to be the favorites, but, to me, that competition and fighting against some odds is what makes sports fun both to play and to watch.

There seems to be a mindset that is all too common among many sports fans these days that if you are not guaranteed to win it all, you may as well not even try.  That attitude bums me out.  And, frankly, it goes against everything that I believe in as far as what sports competition is about.  You compete.  If the other guys are better, well, then you lose, but you never just pack it in and accept defeat before it happens on the floor.

DKC Seventy-Sixers:

PG: G. Hill/D. Schroder
SG: C. Lee/B. Hield/T. Luwawu
SF:  Giannis/J. Lamb/M. Kuzminskas
PF:  E. Ilyasova/J. Jerebko/R. Christmas
C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson

I feel exactly the same way. We have a better team than last year. A much deeper bench.

We can beat Miami and Chicago. That's all we have to focus on.
Getting to the play offs healthy (which this new bench will hopefully help us do), and getting a 2nd unit that can come in and create some offense and scoring for us.
Relying on Delonte and Baby mixed in with the starters just couldn't cut it against certain teams with good defense.

Gotta keep the warrior mentality- because that's what this squad- particularly the Big four are. WARRIORS.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Let me start this by saying I have never once in over 35 years as a Celtics fan rooted for them to lose any game for any reason.  I don't want to see them have to go back into the lottery to build another title contender.  I believe if anyone can achieve the total rebuild we are probably looking at without dipping into the lottery it is Danny Ainge.

I also have been an NBA fan for more then long enough to know it is almost impossible to build a title team when you are stuck in a never ending cycle of mediocrity, a cycle we may begin this season(although I am hoping for better).  You are way better off being really bad then you are being mediocre.  That's the nature of the NBA.

I'd rather not have to suffer through a few horrible seasons to return to where we have been these past few seasons but I'll deal with it if that is the best and fastest way to return to our rightful place at the top.

This team is no better than a 5th seed and is an injury away from becoming a 7th seed (Philly is improved and the Knicks will probably win the division anyways, younger more athletic core) I say lets get a head start on this now.

Here's one trade that I would make
Bos gets Ricky Rubio and Kevin Love
Min gets Rajon Rondo, Jermaine O'Neal's expiring contract and the Clippers 1st round pick.

Rubio helps us build for the future, and while he wasn't great in Spain however, some people feel it was just because he wasn't focused.

Move #2
Boston trades Kevin Garnett to Orlando for 2013 1st round pick and Hedo. We take on a terrible contract for an expiring for a future first rounder, obviously banking that a more competitive team will be able to grab DH12 such as Brooklyn.

Move #3
Boston trades Ray Allen to Portland for Raymond Felton, Chris Johnson and a future 1st round pick. This is a great move for the future, Felton would split time with Rubio at the point. Chris Johnson has a bit of potential and he knows Doc Rivers system. Felton is a FA after this year, again the end game is to get a 1st rounder. Makes sense, plus we get to keep Johnson after the end of the year.

Move #4
Move Paul Pierce for Lamar Odom and filler. Odom is a FA after this year as far as I know and would be a solid 6th man for us. Worst case we buy him out.

This is my starting lineup
PG-Rubio
SG-Moore
SF-Green
PF-JJJ
C-Love

Love is a little under sized but it helps us achieve the goal of tanking for a high lottery pick. Either way even if you do not agree with these ideas, you have to agree with the fact it makes zero sense to have this team as is right now. The fact that anyone truly thinks that the team as currently constructed can win a title is lying to themselves, in my opinion.

Hah I came across this thread...maybe the OP was on to something with this deal haha

Still shouldn't blow it up

I agree with this...I believe that DH12 would be the absolute key to this offseason and what direction we will go.

might as well draft him this year...he will go lower if he leaves after 1 year, and we likely are to have a pretty high draft pick to get him anyway..
