This team is no better than a 5th seed and is an injury away from becoming a 7th seed (Philly is improved and the Knicks will probably win the division anyways, younger more athletic core) I say lets get a head start on this now.

Here's one trade that I would make
Bos gets Ricky Rubio and Kevin Love
Min gets Rajon Rondo, Jermaine O'Neal's expiring contract and the Clippers 1st round pick.

Rubio helps us build for the future, and while he wasn't great in Spain however, some people feel it was just because he wasn't focused.

Move #2
Boston trades Kevin Garnett to Orlando for 2013 1st round pick and Hedo. We take on a terrible contract for an expiring for a future first rounder, obviously banking that a more competitive team will be able to grab DH12 such as Brooklyn.

Move #3
Boston trades Ray Allen to Portland for Raymond Felton, Chris Johnson and a future 1st round pick. This is a great move for the future, Felton would split time with Rubio at the point. Chris Johnson has a bit of potential and he knows Doc Rivers system. Felton is a FA after this year, again the end game is to get a 1st rounder. Makes sense, plus we get to keep Johnson after the end of the year.

Move #4
Move Paul Pierce for Lamar Odom and filler. Odom is a FA after this year as far as I know and would be a solid 6th man for us. Worst case we buy him out.

This is my starting lineup
PG-Rubio
SG-Moore
SF-Green
PF-JJJ
C-Love

Love is a little under sized but it helps us achieve the goal of tanking for a high lottery pick. Either way even if you do not agree with these ideas, you have to agree with the fact it makes zero sense to have this team as is right now. The fact that anyone truly thinks that the team as currently constructed can win a title is lying to themselves, in my opinion.

  • Rondo = Good
Minnie wouldn't go for that trade.

Minnie wouldn't go for that trade.

Its a possibility, Khan has shown an affinity for point guards and Rondo is an all star like Love

Rondo is an all star while wearing green only (ASWWGO).

I mean either way, the main point is that the right thing to do in my opinion is to trade our aging assets now and tank before the season begins. This puts us in awesome shape to draft in the high lottery and get a potential franchise player. This is the only way that long term the Celtics can compete since no one wants to come here as a FA.

Celtics were rebuilding team for 22 years. Who wants to go through that again? We finally have a great team with HOF players. This may not be our year as far as championship. But hey, chill and enjoy the ride.

Why does Portland give up a lottery pick for Ray Allen?

Maybe I'm greedy but I was never a fan of the whole piece together a roster of a bunch of stars, you need to build from the draft up. If we don't do this now, we may see a prolonged rebuilding period again and miss out on a potential franchise player.

Why does Portland give up a lottery pick for Ray Allen?

Portland will be in the playoffs, Ray Allen gives them a clutch shooting guard.

I am with you about blowing it up and collecting as many young assets and draft picks as possible , but not sure taking on Turks contract for a pick in the 2013 draft makes much sense .

Ray is the most likely one that can get back a few young assets. A few years ago the c's could have got Taj Gibson and Asik for Ray at the deadline . I would do a deal like that in a heartbeat now for Ray. Good cheap young trading chips.

I think it will be pretty impossible to trade KG because he is making 20+ this year. I wouldn't want the c's to be taking back anywhere close to 20 mil unless its for an up and coming player or good draft picks along with a longer term contract.

You could try to trade JO for a TPE and pick , or something like that

KEEP CAP FLEXIBILITY FOR 2013

There aren't many very good players in 2012 free agency after Dwight and Deron, but it 2013 guys like Big Al, Kevin Martin, Josh Smith, Bynum, Javel McGee will be free agents. If Danny can land a few of those guys along with hitting on a few of his draft picks in the next few years , the c's could be back in contention within 3 years

PG: Rondo
SG: Kevin Martin
SF: PP
PF: Big Al or Josh Smith
 C: McGee

Add 3 or 4 1st rd picks along with JJJ and Bradley

I think that's the best we can hope for , or something similar

That team isn't winning a championship , but you could probably package a Rondo and a Mcgee for a superstar in the future when the opportunity comes up again like it did in 2007.

Why do people insist on rebuilding? Between posts like this and the SOSH board I've had a miserable last few months as a Sox/C's fan. It's not the OP's fault really, these stupid posts have been coming up since the Celtics traded Perk and they ended up having a sky is falling mentality.

This is true, you make a good point about Big Al I would love him back. He should have never left, but I think JJJ is going to be the real deal.

Rebuilding now would turn me off of basketball beyond belief. Especially after the lockout.

No Roy or Oden. No Prysbilla. Aldridge will miss beginning of the season. It is possible they make the playoffs. It is also possible they don't. They aren't going to trade future assets for a one year rental in a year in which they know they won't contend.

jesus dude, if you're gunna talk "blowing it up", can you at least provide some solid cap-flexibility and get us some decent value in the trades?

The Rondo one is solid, although maybe too much coming our way for Minny to go for it

Why are we trading KG who is expiring for a terrible contract and a pick that won't be worth our while (you actually think they would trade that as an unprotected pick, assuming Howard gets dealt, which I don't know if you've read much, but he apparently is not...)

The Allen trade is insulting, and the Pierce trade is a lateral move at best.....

Here's an idea on "blowing it up"

Stop whining about our team getting older.....

recognize the fact that KG, Allen, and JO are off the books by the end of the season anyway, so they can walk and we have actual cap-space to work with in 2012/13.....let the team play it out as is, and next season maybe KG/Allen come decide to come back at discounted rates because they both actually want to be here, and we get to throw max-money at whomever we choose, rather than being stuck with the Hedo Turkeyglues of the world

you don't blow it up before a season starts anyway.....KG/Allen become more valuable as expiring contracts when the trade deadline approaches, especially because they are contributing players. They are some of the only good things to happen to this team in the last decade and you want to throw them out like last weeks garbage....

BANISH THE OP
