Dallas cap situation in 2012

They are going to amnesty Haywood, and are currently trading Rudy and Brewer, I don't think they will pick up Beaubois/Jones options.

Which means they are a threat to Boston if Howard is a FA, and Deron is their primary target.

However Boston would have more capspace than the Mavs although by little, but barring any trades we would have young assets like Rondo,Bradley,Johnson and Paul Pierce with the possibility to resign KG and Allen.


Dallas wouldn't be able to build a good roster around Howard so to go play with Dirk and Marion is not as good as playing with Boston. I think Deron is a better fit with them.

If they could entertain Deron as much as possible and convince him to leave the Nets Howard is practically a lock to come to Boston.

So it doesn't matter how much cap space the Celtics have in relation to other teams.  Unless those 4 teams are somehow all out of the running, Dwight is not coming here.

Yeah, I think Dwight Howard's mind can be changed. He just needs to get to free agency so that Boston can make their pitch. It'll be a strong offer. One he'll give serious consideration too.

I don't think Boston are out of the race by any means. That will only happen if Dwight is traded to a team he wants to re-sign with.

RE: Lamar = sneaky Lakers are up to something devious with that trade exception. Doesn't appear to directly relate to Dwight Howard though. At least not Orlando. Maybe if it becomes a three team deal or something else. Lakers new trade exception most likely to bring in an additional piece to put alongside Howard + Kobe.
