No way does Chauncey play for the Clippers.

That squad has far too much to do to compete for title.

Eh...

If Butler is healthy, that fills a big hole at SF.

I don't know what's happening with Jordan, but he's a pretty serviceable center.

Billups
Gordon
Butler
Griffin
Jordan

That's a [dang] good starting five IMO. When Bledsoe comes back, he brings a nice spark off the bench. They can potentially fill in their bench and maybe start knocking off some teams in the playoffs a la Memphis.

Props to Clips for not letting the Heat get him. They were already my favorite team out west, but this cemented it.

I'm totally siked that Billups won't be playing for the Heat. But with the additions of Butler and Billups, our '12 draft pick from them isn't looking too great.

Actually, both are just over the hill and overrated enough that we might get that pick next year...they could easily finish >10 but <20.

It's a playoff team. Not a contender.

Has Golden State presented a formal offer to DeAndre Jordan yet?

If so, the Clips would have to amnesty Kaman or Williams to do this, as reported, because there would be a cap hold in the amount of Jordan's offer sheet.

If not, the Clips would be sufficiently under the cap that they wouldn't have to amnesty anybody.

Apparently the cap hold is not in the form of the offer sheet

Larry Coon disagrees, citing "Article VII Section 4(a)(3)".

Wow. And that's pretty much it for the Paul to the Clippers scenarios, right?

Would Stern & Co. accept Mo Williams, Bledsoe, Aminu, Kaman and Minny #1? I think so.

But, according to ESPN, either Williams or Kaman had to be amnestied, so their contracts aren't available to match up with Paul.

Hmm...I wasn't aware of that.

I guess they've given up on CP3.

if true, then that leaves pretty much just boston as a legit CP3 trade destination

How? We don't have Green to include in our offer anymore.

He "failed" his physical... Deal doesn't go through yet.

exactly. That's what I think this whole physical thing is about.

The minimum amnesty bid on Chauncey Billups deal had to be $1.3M. Says one GM: "I'm told there were multiple bids." Clippers had highest.

Riiight...So you really think that he's going to forfeit his 13-14 million dollar a year contract? I definitely doubt it.

I think Billups would only be on the hook for whatever the Clippers' winning bid is. The rest of the money will be owed to him by New York. So not $14mil but probably closer to $3-5mil or whatever their winning bid was.

I expect he'll sit out until the Clips agree to mutually terminate his contract.

Clips had $3.5M in cap space, used it to post winning bid and now face task of getting Billups -- who had threatened retirement -- to report

Still rumors are that Mo Williams might have been amnestied.

Are the Lakers contenders as currently constructed? How about the Spurs? The Grizz?

The Thunder are the only team right now that's a contender out West. Dallas remains a question mark until we see how their moves work out, but I think they will be in the hunt as well.

If Chauncey only wants to go to the top 3 teams, then maybe he should retire. Of course he could give up his $14M, but I don't see him doing that even if he could.

Looks like Coon and Hollinger were wrong, and the Clippers won't have to waive anybody?

if kaman is waived:

so chris . . . how would you like to compete for a championship?

if kaman is willing to sign somewhere for the minimum there are more than a couple teams that would be helped A LOT by adding him to the starting lineup (celtics, mavs, heat all come to mind).

Never forget the Champs of '08, or the gutsy warriors of '10.

Looks that way. And maybe even keep Craig Smith, who i think would have a real chance of com[ing here on the vet min:

Hollinger:

RT @LarryCoon Oops, mea culpa on that last part. 4(a)(3) is for offer sheets to other teams' restricted free agents.

Clippers at 13 if they keep Willie Warren. Can still use "under-cap" midlevel to sign a backup 4 (or retain Smith).

Smart move by the Clippers. Wouldn't have been very smart to build a team around Chris Paul, Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan.

Patch work is DEFINITELY the way to go.
