If we can land someone like Kenyon Martin or JR Smith before the trade deadline and they play really well you never know what could happen we aren't done making moves yet.

I think how far we go this season is how well the Big Three can play but moreover Rondo hes got to make some huge strides. Also we would have to have a huge breakout year from Green (possible given he's playing on a contract year) and the bench would have to gel and be really solid. It would take luck as well a key injury to one of our eastern conference foes Miami, Knicks etc like it happened to us with Rondo last year.

Look at Dallas last season no one had them even getting near the Finals let alone winning, they did it with heart and teamwork as a unit.

And an unstoppable force in Dirk. We don't have that kind of guy on our roster, so I can't agree with the comparison.

If Dirk was an unstoppable force he'd have multiple titles by now.

I'm talking about in the playoffs last year. No one on our team has the ability to consistently produce like that for the entire playoffs. That guy couldn't miss a shot.

So, if 3-4 of our starters can produce like that at various times it's not as effective?

It is, but I think that's unrealistic honestly. The only chance is Rondo doing that against Miami and us playing lights out as a team against Chicago. I don't think it's impossible, just improbable.

I think this team is going to have the same problems it had last year in terms of scoring.  There's no real offense off the bench other than Green.  Quisy, if he stays healthy, can score but he's not a real threat off the bench.  C's need that or they're going to run the starters into the ground again trying to score.

I like the defensive skills of the players he's picked up but unless Rondo develops a jumper and FT skills and JJJ and Bradley show they're rotation-quality players, I don't see this team getting through the Finals.  I think they're certainly second-round quality in the East and possibly good enough to knock off either Chicago or Miami in the semis but not good enough to get through both of them to get into the finals.

We'll have a better idea as the season plays out but Danny's still got some work to do to get this team past both Miami and Chicago.

C's never addressed the scoring. There still isn't that guy that can can put it in the basket late in games when the Big 3 are tired. Throw in this crunched schedule and things aren't looking good.

But I honestly can't see my beloved Celtics getting very far this season with their current roster.

I was ecstatic about getting Brandon Bass (who in my opinion is miles ahead of the immensely dissapointing Glen Davis) but then later today I hear that the David West trade had fallen through and we signed the mighty Pavlovich... Talk about a buzz kill.

*The sad truth is that we're stuck with a very weak center position (a constantly injured JO Neal and a D leaguer) and sadly it's probably the best Boston can do right now. Yes the trading period isn't done yet, but do any of you truly expect anything truly exceptional to happen?*

Too many looking at the team through rose colored glasses. This team as presently exists is no longer a competitor of the top 5 teams. In order to compete a team needs a base. We have none. Danny's thrill ride is over. Just the fact that players are vocally dismissing Boston as an unsuitable place to continue or start a career. Danny paid the price for the quick fix and now must pay up. At present we need a point guard qualified for back up, a center, and a power forward. When those conditions are met things may change. Tank the season and look to the draft.

I wasn't expecting too much this season now that the Big 3 are 1 year older, Rondo still seems to have lingering injury problems, and with so many back to backs in this shortended season (which the Celtics were HORRIBLE at last season).

But I truly feel dissapointed that the Big 3 can't get a better supporting cast for their last hurrah. They are old and tired, and can't carry the load alone anymore like they used to.

The Big 3 were EXTREMELY unlucky with injuries and deserved at least 1 more title. I'm just sad that it seems like they will go out in their last year with a whimper rather than a bang. Instead they will more likely be a blip on the radar in the grand scheme of things.

I hope they all prove me dead wrong, but considering what I saw last season I won't be betting any money on it.

Anyone else agree/disagree? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Is the CBA's season going to be over before the trade deadline? Just wondering would it be a possibility to get Martin or JR the guys over in china right now.

Yes but Dallas also had Tyson Chandler.  Nowitzki played out of his mind to win the championship but without Chandler's added toughness and defensive presence, the Mavs still would be without a title.

I dont think JO is anywhere close to Chandler.  I don't even believe he can play a full 80 games.  Adding a true starting 5 who we can count on is the biggest area of need, not CP3 or backup SF.

Last season, Chandler played 74 regular season games, but before that, he played 54 and 41 in the previous two seasons.  (He did play in 70+ games in six of his first seven seasons.)  To a certain degree, the Mavs were lucky that Chandler was healthy, given that he seems to have recurring ankle and back problems over multiple seasons.

Jermaine O'Neal is more likely than not to miss a good chunk of games, but there is a decent chance he is healthy for the playoffs.
